  1. hey guys, yeah after messing with this some more I noticed that removing the oembios files after running minlogon and then switching back to winlogon the activation reminder goes away. so i guess it makes sense that if you don't install them in the first place windows just has a brain fart or something and forgets about them. on a side note, i'm guessing most of you guys don't hang around mp3car.com a lot so if anyone uses minlogon that huge list of instructions really isn't necessary anymore. all you need to do is add the Config value under the Winlogon tree. So you can more easily switch between minlogon and winlogon now. I don't really think minlogon is useful for desktop systems though. I'm only using it for my carpc install since I want it to boot up as fast as possible.
  2. You can get to the files for my minlogon and ewf hacks just by browsing through the subdirectories under repositories. Just make sure you find the latest versions of the files, because some features are only supported in XPe SP2.
  3. I've got full hibernation and standby support with the power button on my minlogon+EWF setup running on my CF card. You sure it's not something else that you gutted?
  4. Guys please don't "sabotage" this work. I'm sure you've all figured out some of the interesting side effects of minlogon, but that's not the reason I researched this minlogon mod, it was for boot times and footprint! BTW, I posted on mp3car.com my results of finally installing my system on CF. My cold boot times hover around 18-19 seconds from the BIOS "beep" on a VIA MII. The CF card I'm using is a 1GB SanDisk UltraII. I've also got an Extreme model which according to benchmarks I've seen is a little faster, but I haven't tested it out yet. SanDisk has a new model coming out very soon, the ExtremeII, which smokes even these cards!!! Hibernation saves me about 2 seconds with the current card. Next, I want to test with a custom shell because explorer is the big slow down. This is for my car system so I don't need explorer running. From what I've read, SanDisk's "industrial" cards are considerably faster, but I haven't found a place that will sell to individual consumers.
  5. Missing CTL-ALT-DEL functionality isn't because of a missing executable. I'm guessing the normal winlogon captures that hardware event and handles it, but since minlogon was meant for kiosk type devices it ignores it. Just like if you've ever seen those old internet kiosks built from a Win98 system. If you knew the right commands you could bring up a command window, or explorer. Minlogon was designed to prevent you from doing that if.
  6. I don't think this is something that you should slipstream into an install. I'll say it again, this is not meant for all users. All it really does is decrease your footprint by 12.5 MB and decrease boot time, but for a home system I don't think those few extra seconds really matter, do they? I keep my system running 24/7 so it doesn't for me I guess. The only reason I researched this was for "embedded" systems (I'm using that term loosely in relation to XP Pro based hobby projects . Anyways, to see what MSFT says about MinLogon go here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/dn...PE_MinLogon.asp It's got a section on security as well. Have fun guys!!!
  7. The only reason I'm looking at all these XPe components is for my carpc system, that's why I say that stuff like EWF and minlogon might not be of interest for nlite users that just want to slim their XP installs. I don't think I'd use minlogon for my desktop. A lot of us are using nlite for our car systems. MinLogon and EWF give us more choices for what media to install to (flash, cd, etc.), decrease footprint, and improve cold boot performance. I'm not looking to try and circumvent MSFT's activation features. On a side note, someone above mentioned that hibernate and standby don't work with minlogon. That's incorrect. They in fact do work with minlogon from XPe SP2. If it's not working for you make sure you got the right minlogon. I've tested both without a problem.
  8. woah!!! 17 seconds?? compared to what beforehand?? ****, i'm stuck with this s***ty old drive (my 2.5" drive died so i'm using an old maxtor) so I can't really get a feel for how much faster it is.
  9. Hey guys, mpatton posted this same question on the mp3car forums and I posted one solution that may interest you guys. Go here: http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=37724 It's how to use the minlogon component from XP embedded. Just like EWF, it may not be for everyone, but at least it gets rid of this freaking 12.5MB file. Later, Frito
