Ok I will make a documented post soon. Before that happen I will just put basic info on my system. Intel 440BX chipset. 512 ram, Copermine PIII 800mhz (this CPU actually have limited SSE ver 1 and MMX next gen), 3dfx voodoo 3500 So based on this I think it should work I will get too it soon maybe tomorrow after I sleep. Once I we figure out how to get it working I will make a guide for other people to be able to do it too.
  5. One Core API

Thats what VMs are for. I may give it a try. Theres not much documentation for it. I presume it is using reactos files. That being said React OS is not very mature. So this is like a preview of what is coming. ReactOS is supposed to be compatible with NT 5.1/ 5.2. So assuming at such time reactOS matures it will be better than XP is right now, and you could use react OS files on XP.
  6. I like something called Contig for that you can download contig from sysinternals/Microsoft. Then Put the Contig gui in the same directory. This is much better than windows defrag. Ok I realized that sysinternal programs are constantly being upgraded, some may no longer work on XP if version doesn't work just look for older contig. Free https://en.softonic.com/download/contig/windows/post-download?sl=1 Free http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/Power-Defragmenter.shtml
  7. Unofficial SP 5.2 for Microsoft Windows 2000 (WIP)

how to could be easy. Just make a video and put it on youtube. Start from scratch in the video and then go through a complete build like you are doing it, in real life. Then all someone has to do is watch the video. You know just use a screen recording software and talk into it.
  8. sure it could be done, try changing the pointers to those files in the registry. I guess just make a new directory and point the registry there. copy your reference files to the new one. Back up this reg key 1st so if it dont work you can put it back. It could be more involved than this. But its possible.

How can we get KM76-Goanna beta made by roytam1 working on 98se. Ok I followed Jumper advice and updated kernelex to the latest by replacing the files in the kernelex folder with the newest ones. I downloaded a hacked mscvr120.dll that roytam1 made and put it in my kmelon folder on C:\ drive. I selected xpsp2 compatibility. I go to click on kmelon and it says kmelon failed to initialize, please reinstall. I click ok. Kmelon illegal operation it says. and a box of stuff.
  10. I just want to focus all my time into getting something better than what we have right now. What we were able to accomplish with KernelEX was amazing for the time. I want to make this thread to help share ideas on what is possible. I have a few ideas of my own that I plan on working on but I want to hear from others. I think trying to get newer versions of Opera is a waste of time because even the latest versions on XP seem to work pretty bad imo. Firefox is a total hog and just gets worst and worst the higher the version the more bloated and slow. But we need limited HTML 5 support at the very least. SSL and updated certs. We need script blocking and add blocking to help slow machines.
  11. Unofficial SP 5.2 for Microsoft Windows 2000 (WIP)

Ok thanks. So i Guess the proceedure is. Sp4+IE6+Dx9+Wmp+ect, etc+update Roll up 1 +all official post update 1 hotfix to 2010 + Unofficial Update Roll up 1 + KernelEX? Am i more or less right? Most people just throw away old computers, while I don't. I'm not going to use 2000 on an everyday basis though. i might use it for some lite classic gaming and I plan on putting an older copy of wsus on it. I maybe will run some legacy server applications on it to support my DOS boxes and stuff. I have a legit copy of 2000 Server and this is the best use I can find for my old Dual PIII 1ghz workstation. I got it as a computer dump for like 20 dollars about 15 years ago. It's this http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/twin,243-3.html It wont run recent OS very good, but i will fly on win2k.
  12. Unofficial SP 5.2 for Microsoft Windows 2000 (WIP)

I know project is dead, and I tried to find it but i can't find Windows2000-UURollup-v10c-x86-ENU.exe Is it still recommended to install this or no?
  13. Windows98SE startup/boot problem ( annoyance)

[Paths] WinDir=C:\WINDOWS WinBootDir=C:\WINDOWS HostWinBootDrv=C [Options] BootMulti=1 Logo=1 BootGUI=1 DoubleBuffer=1 AutoScan=1 WinVer=4.10.2222 ; ;The following lines are required for compatibility with other programs. ;Do not remove them (MSDOS.SYS needs to be >1024 bytes). ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxa ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxb ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxc ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxd ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxe ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxf ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxg ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxh ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxi ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxj ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxk ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxl ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxm ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxn ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxo ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxp ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxq ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxr ;xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxs no it can't be IO.sys the computer wouldn't boot to dos without it. then he is launching win.com from dos. To me now that a re read what you wrote I think the problem is your msdos.sys. It doesn't have the right info in it to boot. your msdos.sys should have something similar to this in it.
  14. Windows98SE startup/boot problem ( annoyance)

Need to be more specific, how did you preform a recovery process. It's probably something in your win.ini or msdos.sys or config.sys. If you could explain exactly what you did there could be a clue as to what happened.
  15. How hard would it be to use Goanna engine in kmelon and back-port kmelon so it could work on 98se with kernelex. I tried to launch it and it complained that msvcr120 had missing exports in kernel32 but that looked promising to me,
  16. Can Windows XP Pro x86 *Safely* TRIM an SSD?

Not all SSD is created equal.. If SSD last 36 years, I maybe dead and gone by then. That is long time.
  17. Modern Browser Project 2018

Kmelon people seem interested in using Goanna engine in kmelon based on work that roytam1 had been doing on newmoon. roytam1 was demonstrating running it on a 586 architecture. That project has the most possibility for 98se users. Any browser that can run without SSE or with only SSE at the minmum is the way to go. SSE2 is a no go for 9x users.
  18. You can install XP on a 486 I saw a video on youtube.
  19. None of these ports should ever be open past a firewall so it doesn't matter.
  20. Can Windows XP Pro x86 *Safely* TRIM an SSD?

This guide a little outdated as menstioned before you don't have to TRIM newer SDDs that much. Like my samsung 850 Pro i rarely trim and its just fine.
  21. I would use XP x64, but I have 7 x64 ultimate and I have a hard time going back. Please talk me into it and give me reasons why and I might consider it.
  22. Last Versions of Software for Windows 98SE

can your windows wrappers launch a decent web browser for 9x
  23. I am pretty surprised that they fixed that. There must be enough customers still running XP embedded to warrant that,
  24. Your fav version of Windows 9x?

Ya OSR 2.1/5 was really solid. Micro 98 Lite is basically the same as OSR 2.1 without the bugs tho.
  25. Could be because the card isn't complying to ACPI. The only fix for that maybe is to not run ACPI. It's impossible to fix unless someone else has the same card and hardware as you and just happened to be able to fix it. But I would recommend turning off ACPI and see if that doesn't work.
