  1. Any idea when is 5.2 estimated to arrive?
  2. And does the ryanvm installer of the adobe reader 7.03 work or not :-/
  3. Did you try the adobe installer from ryanvm.msfn.org?
  4. It doesn't install or it installs and doesn't work?
  5. @tain: I was kinda referring to something else, I'll summarize it up for you as its splitted in many threads in the old forum (all written by fdv ) ... my post before this one has a CODEBOX that has an INF file in it. i need someone to see if it installs Windows Update using my fileset. Use my files, and save the CODEBOX contents as AU.INF, replacing my empty one. my goal is to add the background windows update agent as well as the IE one. what you would do is visit windows update by typing the url into an explorer bar (after having installed MSHTML.INF from my fileset). ... there are two ways windows updates itself, and in the INF installer text, you'll see a file with a CPL extension. that is the control panel applet for "keep windows up to date automatically." that, and updates via a url typed in the explorer bar (after having right clicked and installed mshtml.inf from my fileset) are what i was investigating. i need someone to use my fileset, replace the contents of AU.INF with the CODEBOX contents in my post with the chili recipe, and install. then install mshtml.inf, and see if 1) the control panel applet works, 2) windowsupdate works via "windowsupdate.micrsoft.com" typed into an explorer windows titlebar. The codebox that fdv is referring to can be found here: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=32125&st=681# Regards, Pene
  6. @saugatak: I have not tried this, but my guess is that it should go just where explorer used to be, that is C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ (@fdv - correct me if i'm wrong). If that doesn't work, try the WINNT folder. After it, just run it once and forget (or wait for a program to launch it instead)... Regards, Pene
  7. @fdv, Regarding the hotfix that saugatak mentioned earlier (IE6.0sp1-KB905495-Windows2000-x86-ENU.exe), you seemed to have left it out from the site. Is it included in any other fixes that you added? Thanks, Pene
  8. @fdv: I remember some time ago that you spoke about the ability to run Windows Update when using your fileset with mshtml... Is there anything new going with it? Regards, Pene
  9. @Oleg_II: It could be really nice if someone can make a standalone Speedisk... @saugatak: Internet explorer is named IEXPLORE.exe. When a program is trying to access internet explorer it will in fact run the changed IEXPLORE.exe, which will forward it to mozilla or whatever. Regarding the other question, no, you can't delete it. the changed IEXPLORE.exe should stay there for every time that a program is trying to run Internet Explorer. Hope it helped. Pene
  10. @saugatak: By the output of your xcopy, the only possible conlusion is that ntldr and ntdetect.com are not in your FIX directory, as I can't think of any reason that could cause xcopy ignore the files if they are there (when using the /H parameter). When running the XCOPY command (you ran it correctly), you should see the files ntldr and ntdetect.com being copied. Regards, Pene

    Drivers

About drivers signing: When using hfslip, I think (didn't check) that there shouldn't be the problem of drivers signing (so maybe there is no need to use WatchDriverSigningPolicy.exe), as the registry is modified during setup by an inf file to disable driver signing... Or is this something else? Besides that, now i am confused Does this method work with Windows 2000 or not?

    Standalone Outlook 6

@fdv: Can you please seed it again for a second?
  13. @Oleg_II: I totally agree about the things that happen without knowing, but the ability to run windows update from within explorer seems interesting... Hoping that it would know to deal with the missing components of course... Regards, Pene
  14. @fdv: Interesting. So Windows Update might work on an IE-less system by typing update.microsoft.com in an explorer titlebar... And I was sure all along that IE was needed... A few more questions about this: 1. How would Windows Update deal with the missing IE? I mean, what about updates to IE itself or to other components that won't be installed? Will it know not to show them? 2. Couldn't this trick work also for Add/Remove? Or is it completely IE dependant? Regarding testing it, I will be able to test it only on next weekend, as I don't have access to my Win2000 HD at the moment... Now, to a few notes about Step 4 in the instructions (sorted by order of appearance): 1. At "XML 4 (optional)": You seemed to have missed my note about the XML4 install point 1 (in the same post #705). Not that it really matters, it's just that for a very long time, every time I look at the instructions I wonder why it's there If i'm wrong about it, let me know. 2. At "Malicious Software Removal Tool (optional)": If all that the stupidly large file does is update generate a regkey, why just not slipstream a reg file instead of the tool? (Do you know what the reg entry that it updates is?) 3. At "Windows Update, LegitCheck (optional)": At point 2, (info on Windows Genuine Advantage) points to a dead link. The new link is: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898588 4. At Exodorial The Windows Wizard (end of Step 4): WGA points to a dead link. The new link is: http://www.uawiki.org/doku.php?id=wxp:ua:activation Thanks again, Pene
  15. @fdv: Thank you for the response. I still don't get it. Maybe its the hour But how can Windows Update work at all on an IE-less system? Thanks, Pene
  16. @fdv: Sorry for bothering, but I think that you missed my post #705... Could you please take a look back? Regards, Pene
  17. @tommyp: My suspicions were confirmed... The old legitcheck doesn't work anymore for all downloads, so integrating the new version would be a good idea... The new legitcheck is available at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=39204 The downloaded file will be LegitCheckControl.cab, and not an exe with an msi inside like the previous version... So in order to use it, you will have to make minor changes to HFSLIP (this would also make the installation instructions a bit simpler, as there is no more need to extract the msi from the exe and use MSIExtract). The cab includes 3 files: The same two files that you've been using (GWFSPIDGen.dll, LegitCheckControl.dll), and an additional file LegitCheckControl.inf, which can be used to install the WGA. You can integrate it just like before, by using the two files from the cab, or alternatively by using the inf file included in the cab (I guess)... You know best what to do Regards, Pene
  18. @fdv: Thanks for your reply. How can you implement Windows Update without IE? This sounds interesting... How can including WindowsUpdateAgent benefit me on an IE-less system? Regarding your instructions, a few notes: A direct link to the rootsupd thing, without the need to rename anything (same version): http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownlo...en/rootsupd.exe By the way, is the root certificates used only by IE? What I'm trying to realize is if it makes any sense to include it when removing IE... Regarding XML4, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that point 1 there ".. download the MSICabExtract ..." is unnecessary and can be removed. It was relevant when there used to be a link to the msi installer of msxml and we needed to extract the exe from it, however now you give a direct link to the exe... Thanks, Pene
  19. @fdv: About the issue triplex was experiecing, it is not a typo. The english version contains both mdmrpci.inf and mdmrpciw.inf. The original inf files refer to mdmrpci.inf just as fdv's files, so renaming the lines that refer to mdmrpci.inf to mdmrpciw.inf could cause problems with the english version... I guess the german version doesn't have the file mdmrpci.inf, and that causes the problem... If you don't mind, I have a few questions about the filelist that you have in your HF dir. If you do mind, I respect your right to do whatever you wish to with your HF dir, and not explain anyone your reasons 1. WindowsUpdateAgent20 - Why do you include it when you rip IE out, (so you won't be able to use Windows Update anyway)? Does it update other components also? 2. KB894320 (Security Update for Windows 2000) - Why don't you include it, when it's listed in the general recommeded fixes list? 3. IE-KB903235 (Security Update for JView Profiler) - I understand why you include it, as it's an update meant for both IE 5.01 and 6.0. The question is, why did you omit it from the instructions when using 5.01 or ripping IE out? Thanks, Pene.
  20. @tommyp: Thank you for your answer, and sorry for not noticing that... Another thing that I'm not sure about: I see that placing LegitCheckControl.msi in HF gets the files LegitCheckControl.dll and GWFSPidGen.dll copied to System32. What does this acheive? Just avoiding the need to install the activex control first time in IE? Should it work also when using setupp.ini from fdv's fileset that makes setup skip asking the serial number (or in that case it won't pass the validation process)? Another issue - considering that the version of the files that you link to (in fdv's site) is 1.3.254 and the latest is 1.3.272, won't it ask anyway to update it to the new version? A few additional questions, if you don't mind, about your error_report: 1. I noticed that you have the following IE6SP1 cabs in HFCABS: CRLUPD.CAB, IEEXINST.CAB, MPLAY2U.CAB, README.CAB. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't see them anywhere in the instructions... What do they add? 2. the_guy mentioned that IE-KB903235 is not necessary anymore, as it's included in KB896727 (and it seems that fdv removed it from the instruction list also), however you include it in your HF. Does it add anything or should it be ommited? Thanks, Pene
  21. A few minor issues about fdv's fileset: 1. Hfslip is looking for delfiles.txt, while in your fileset there is only a file named delfiles. (without any extension)... So it's not being processed. My guess is that you just have to rename it... 2. As hfslip copies all the files from fdvfiles to sourcess, readme.txt and delfiles.txt are being copied as well... So I think it could be nice adding to delfiles.txt (after renaming it...) the files readme.txt and delfiles.txt, as I really can't think of a good reason for them to be present on the cd It should be ok to delete delfiles.txt via delfiles.txt, as the file being processed is in fdvfiles, and the file being deleted is in sourcess. Thanks, Pene
  22. @tommyp, Hi again. I've had to go away for a few days so I couldn't answer you earlier. Sorry about that. Now my replys will be much much quicker... Regarding the DirectX problem: In device manager I have the "!" sign next to "USB Audio Device". The error being displayed is: Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31). The files that are being used by the device are: system32\drivers\portcls.sys system32\drivers\stream.sys system32\drivers\usbaudio.sys system32\ksuser.dll system32\wdmaud.drv DXDiag seems to report that everything is fine... However under "Sound", no soundcards appear. After reinstalling DirectX (or when installing with the previous method that used silent install), everything works fine: There is no "!" next to the device, and in DXDiag I see my USB Audio as a sound card under the "Sound" tab. Regarding the files in use, the same list of files appear (there are no additional files there when it is working fine). I hope this can help you determine the problem. If you can think of any other tests that I can do, just let me know, and I'll try to do the best I can. Regards, Pene
  23. @tommyp: Hi again, I tested again with the latest version of hfslip, and the same problem keeps happening with slipstreamed directx (usb audio not working). Do you have any lead about what could the problem be? Thanks, Pene
  24. @tommyp: I get the error both with and without fdv's files. They have no effect on it. The only additional strage issues that I had with fdv files were the _____ instead of writing (which I am not 100% sure that is connected, but it seems to have been solved after reinistalling directx), and the missing add/remove (reason/solution unknown...). I do not have the box on which I installed windows 2000 here, however, I do have a box here with Windows XP and the same usb audio device. Under Windows XP, the following files are used for the device: under system32: ksuser.dll, ksproxy.ax, wdmaud.drv under system32\drivers: drmk.sys, ks.sys, portcls.sys, stream.sys, usbaudio.sys Thanks, Pene
  25. @tommyp: There is a problem with integration of directx. I have a totally standard USB audio device (uses the standard windows 2000 usb audio device driver), which refuses to work when directx is slipstreamed (an ! is displayed next to the device in device manager, saying the device cannot be started). It did not happen with the previous hfslip when directx was ran as a silent install, and also if I install directx over an installaion where it was slipstreamed it solves the issue. Also take a look at point 4 in the notes for fdv below. However, I am not 100% that what I write there is true... --------------------------------------------------------------------- @fdv: I had to install Windows 2000 on a Pentium2/333 with 64MB of ram, so I tried your ie remove files, and really liked the results. A few questions is I may: 1. Add/Remove programs is not present in the Control Panel. Is it supposed to be like that? (It could be, I guess, maybe it uses IE...). If it is not a bug, then can you recommend a program that offers the same functionality? 2. I have an icon in the Control Panel with no name under it, and clicking it also does nothing... What is it? Could it be fixed so it won't appear there? 3. This is just a suggestion: On a clean installation the Internet Explorer shortcut is displayed on the desktop. Why not remove it? 4. After a clean installation I had trouble with some fonts. More than half of the programs would display ________ instead of words... At some point the problem disappeared, and I think (not 100% sure) that it was solved after reinstalling directx (take a look at the notes I wrote for tommyp above). Just as a note (in case you wonder on what installation I had the problems above): Using the latest hfslip, I slipstremed all the fixes you recommend in the instructions (including IE5.01 fix, excluding anything that has to do with IE6), and I also slipstreamed directx. Thanks, Pene
