  1. thought you guys might be more helpful than the MS newsgroups... ever since SP1 came out, I tried to install it on two systems. one was an enterprise machine. to make the story shorter, the update failed and I downloaded enterprise with SP1. Installation went fine. Since this weekend the system is unusable: need to activate again 0xc004E003 (I guess after the last installation this must be the third or fourth time I have to activate ?) this is my company laptop with the company mak key I even purchased a technet plus on my personal account and tried that product key yesterday : 0xC004F050 WTF ?! There is not much software on the laptop: standard office, acrobat. I use it mostly to vpn in to the company LAN, so don't think there is a virus or something. can't remember having received a driver update or something either. guess I'll have to call MS ... can't imagine that I'm the only one to have this either?
  2. I am running vista home premium since quite a while now, and wanted to modify the default policy with gpedit.msc and it just isn't there. apparantly only in business, enterprise and ultimate. after the trouble I got with dynamic disks not being supported, this is the second deception. Hopefully this kind of feature description will be available somewhere in the near future, to avoid it further. anyways, apart from plain and simple registry editing, is there a way round to enable group policy editing in my case?
  3. while I'm waiting on a new machine, I thought I'd upgrade an older client to test BDD 2007. so I upgraded it with a dlink dfe-550TX and a pxe boot rom (the only combo I could find ...) and some RAM. but it seems there is not yet a suppported driver for vista ready. I've tested with the existing driver, so I can create an image with the PE boot cd, but at a certain moment the image creation stops because of the lack of a driver for this nic. bummer ...
  4. apparantly if you are going for BDD 2007 to deploy XP images, you'll encounter problems to create the image. you must first create a vista build (have a share ready) and update this build, before you can distribute XPs.
  5. many people with plextor drives have similar problems, even after they put the latest firmware on. there is a kb article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us (don't know yet if that works), other suggestions are to remove the device from the device manager and have it detected again at the next reboot
  6. I have just gone through an update of my workstation, before it had XP installed, now it has Windows 2003 server and Vista Home Premium. the thing is now that the dynamic disks with spanned volumes on them I created in XP are no longer visible within Vista or 2003. The option to "import foreign disk" is not selectable. I am sure there must be a way of doing this. converting these volumes back to basic disks is not an option, the data must stay on there. help. update: i managed to make the dynamic disks visible in the server os, but vista still doesn't see them. the disk management console sees the disks are dynamic, but offline. then I tried to set them to online with diskpart, which says "error while onlining the objects in the pack associated with the selected disk". I think I'm close
