I bought a USB D-Link Wireless Adapter. WUA-1430. Up to 54mbps. I am using it, because I am in a hotel for a few weeks, and when I try to play games online It so freaking laggy, that I can't even play any game online. I mainly play rappelz, an mmorpg. I did a speed test on it, and it says i get 1003kbps download, and 463kbps upload, so if its that fast why do I lag so **** much?

One of my friends told me that, it may not be quick enough to catch up with the hotel's speed, or instead of using usb swap it out for pci one. I am also on Windows Vista Home Premium, with 4gig ram, and 350gb hard drive, Intel Duo Core 2 processor, nvidia geforce 8800gtx.

open command prompt and type "PING GOOGLE.COM -T" and watch the screen for 1-2 minutes and see if any packets get lost.

Do you have the Vista firewall enabled? Try playing around with its restrictions. Otherwise, it's probably the hotel's Internet or something I can't really think of right now.

It may be latency, or its to far away from the router, i can get one with longer range.:) I do not have firewall enable atm.

If you get timeouts then theres something wrong with your connectivity that is lagging your games.i dont think it does have anything to do with the facts that you are using USB modem but it might be with the modem you use.
by any chance dont you know if any other pc in the network experiencing the same? if yes then you gotta check the gateway or the isp you get the connection from.and if noone else get these packet loss's then theres something wrong with your pc.

As i said i dont think thats the problem but if you think it is then why do you ask? borrow a pci card from one of your friends and see if it fix.

Because someone told me with a pci card, that it limits your bandwidth or something about usb 2.0 adapters not being so good.

wireless G does not eat up all the bandwitdth USB 2.0 has to offer. the max throughput on usb 2.0 is 480mbps, vs the 54mbps of a wireless-g card operating at full spec. Even if you were connecting at wireless-b speeds (11mbps), you'd still have more than enough bandwidth for games. That said, it's highly unlikely to be your wireless card, however I suppose anything is possible. It's more likely to be the hotel's connection.

Some hotels will only buy a decent connection for their establishment to save money. It's typically a high latency connection. Most people won't notice it when they check their e-mail or surf the web, however it will be quite noticeable in online games where latency is a killer.

You may be fresh out of luck on this one.

Well I finally got it working!!! I bought a wireless b/g netgear range booster up to 104mbps and longer range. So I just think it wasn't in good enough range, possibly?
