I'm using 98SE with SP2.1a
I installed the Explorer.exe 256-color fix and the GDI Q918547 fixes (yes I rebooted after each) from this site, and got this:
"Error loading (filename), you need to reinstall Windows" - after installing either one of those fixes.

So I renamed the .ori files (thank god they were backed up) and everything went back to normal
What am I doing wrong? All open programs were closed and ended during install...

Which versions of those updates did you install? If you downloaded them more than 2 weeks ago, then these updates have been updated recently that may fix your installation errors.
