Nero 8 Lite and Micro 8.2.8.0

What's this about?

Nero 8 Lite is an custom created installer for the main Nero Burning Rom applications.
It also comes with unattended switches to make it install silently

Why don't you use Nero 8?

Nero 8 has become bloatware and it's difficult to make the setup program install silently. Also by default Nero installs a lot of DirectShow filters which may interfere with my video recording software.

Why not use another burning program?

When it comes to burning Nero does have an intuitive user interface, has proven stability and compatibility with most burners. It may even supports burning HD-DVD and BlueRay, and it can print Labelflash cd's.
But face it, there are other free cd burning applications in development which are making progress.
If you want a free burning program I can recommend ImgBurn. Its user interface is not exactly like Nero, but it will do all burning tasks just fine.
Recently a new project got my attention: InfraRecorder. InfraRecorder is open source, lightweight and the interface works just like Nero. Although it looks nice, it is not very stable yet.

Do I loose functionality when switching to Nero 8 Lite?

I try to keep Nero 8 functionality as complete as possible, so definitely usability over space. Of course I do remove a lot of stuff, but none of these is essential for burning plain cd's. If you ran into a problem, don't be shy to post.
Micro version is for people who only want a full functional Nero Burning ROM version, but without any extra software like CoverDesigner and WaveEditor.

Where can I download Nero 8 Lite?

http://updatepack.nl

Are there any known Issues:
Nero 8:
Some people experience some activation issues with latest version. Entering your serial again using the Nero ControlCenter might fix the problem!

Nero 7:
Manually entering a serial with Nero ProductSetup Tool after installation might cause the More features available prompt.
Use Attachment MissingF...regtweak.reg to disable this message.

Are there any custom unattended switches?

Generally, look up Inno Setup documentation to read about commandline switches. The following list contains switches most used in unattended setup scripts

/SILENT
If a reboot is needed Setup will ask you.

/VERYSILENT
Automatic reboot without asking.

/NORESTART
No reboot, even if necessary.

/USER="UserName"
Specifies User Name

/COMPANY="MyCompany"
Specifies Company Name

/SERIAL="XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX"
Specifies Serial Number

/TYPE="SetupType"
Specifies Setup Type. Enter compact and only Nero Burning Rom will be installed.

Can You specify "SetupType" words for using with /TYPE switch?

Acheron,

With build 1.15.0.2, I am experiencing DLL registration problem on my Vista Business & Ultimate workstations (please see attached screenshot of the error box).

Problem exist on clean install and install-over previous build.

Ignoring the msg poses no problem thereafter. Burning of DVDR still functional. Other features not used ;)

You can ignore the message for now. It appears that I did not set the right flags for that file. Will be fixed for next build. I have also uploaded new asian builds, there was some issue with Nero ControlCenter Help (not critical).

Where can I find the feature list for each package (list of what each contains)?

Start the installation for each package (micro and lite) and you will find the answer.

I figured that.
Why isn't a place to read before download, so users could decide what's best for them...

Hey Acheron, I deleted my Nero lite recently, thought it was time to download a new version. I wish I didn't delete the file, since the newest Nero Lite is 50 MB !
I like Micro, just also want Mausau, Coverdesigner and Nero Express... can't believe that's a 50mb extra!
How come the big difference? Not so Lite... OK it is very Lite compared to full Nero, but then it can grow to 300mb and you can still call it lite.

The grow in size is caused by two things:

1. Nero 8 is bigger.
2. I have bundled more languages together to save development time.

Ok well ofcourse I understand your 2nd point. The first one well duh, don't understand why Nero is growing massively. My whole WinXP+software etc isn't as big as nero full install.

So I just tried unpacking Nero lite (innounp.exe) to get to the inno script file. Goal was modifying the script and recompiling. Unfortunately, innounp cannot unpack. Perhaps bevause you are using the newest version of Inno Setup (5.2.1) and the unpacker can handle only 5.1.1.0. But I was wondering if you are using encryption? Since then I won't be able to extract it when a new innounp.exe comes out (if that will happen in the near future..)

btw, I now installed InfraRecorder (= Free & Nero-like interface!) , didn't burn anything yet, last time I tried (almost year ago) it still seemed a bit buggy. If nero lite takes to much time and InfraRecorder is OK I might stick with that...

Just wanted everyone to know... there is a <5MB alternative wich might be as functional and easy-to-use as Nero Lite :)

I know of InfraRecorder, which is a great alternative in about 1-2 years I guess for Nero. Until then Nero Lite suits me best. I only develop Nero Lite for myself in the first place. To share some of my work I release by time Nero Lite SDKs you could use. If the size is a big issue for you then try looking for some other alternative versions of Nero, but be warned some functionality will be lost.

InfraRecorder has great GUI design. Too bad the inner working of the software is crap. Multisession is an immense pain in the a** and the reliability is far below par. Garbage.

Yep you are right about infra.. too bad. Think i'll switch to nero micro. I suppose it has Nerotools and Nero Express? I'll only miss Coverdesigner & have to integrate Mausau plugins manually.

EDIT: Switched to Nero Micro, unfortunately no NeroTools!
Luckily they are freely and legally available for download:
http://www.cdspeed20...m/download.html
And this the working link for InfoTool: http://www.nero.com/...-infotools.html

Unfortunately, I can't find all of Mausau's Plugins, not all of them are available on the official site:
http://www.bitburner...-audio-plugins/

Does anyone have a link to the (recent versions of) RealMedia / RealAudio?

You guys might want to try JetBee FREE. As far as I can tell, it's not crippled in any way from the registered version. It has no nags that I've noticed either. The only difference I can tell is that is says "FREE" on the titlebar. The fact that it supports multisession is a big bonus. I also think it's portable like it's sister app Convex Evolution. JetBee has the features I need in Nero at only ~100KB size difference from ImgBurn.

Some features:

burn data cd and dvd from files and folders

burn data cd and dvd from iso image files

burn data cd and dvd in UDF format

burn multisession cd and dvd discs

create and burn bootable cd and dvd discs

burn data cd and dvd discs from Alcohol mds image files

erase rewritable cd and dvd discs

burn audio cd discs with from wav, mp3, wma and ogg files

burn audio cd with cd-text

burn dvd video discs from dvd media content of higher compatibility with hardware dvd players

burn VideoCD and SuperVideoCD discs

verify cd and dvd discs after burning

copy data, audio, video cd and dvd discs

raw cd copying

create iso image files both from files, folders, cd and dvd drives and dvd media content

create Alcohol mds image files from cd and dvd discs

rip audio files from audio cd

save track (one or more) from cd/dvd disc

burn cd and dvd discs without administrative rights under 2000/XP/Vista with our StarOpen driver. This driver provides CD/DVD access for any user regardless of Security Policies.

Yes, you're right, it's off topic. By the way JetBee and JetBee FREE are 2 separate downloads. One is 30 day trial, the other is literally free.

same error here , on lite edition , on both packs [enu/euro]

tested on 2 computers [mine and other with a fresh XP install]

with [Ignore] the installation is finished [ok in my opinion] .

i used autoit for pack the installer [fileinstall]
i run silent the installer from autoit with parameters :
$parameters = " /SILENT /NORESTART /USER=Owner /COMPANY=Home /SERIAL=0000-0000-0000-0000-0000-0000-0000 /TYPE=SetupType"

the name+company+serial are registered ok.

i saw in an earlier post that NeroVMRmodules.dll was missing from the package in a previous version

now , the file exist at his location but can be registered ?!

something wrong in what i am doing here ?

Attached File(s)

Is a known issue, will be fixed later this week. You can ignore the message for now. BTW in your commandline /TYPE should be either full or compact ;)
