Just recently started to take notice of this brilliant website/forum even though I registered 2 years ago and been happily slipstreaming away Just a quickie for now... was just wondering if it was possible to somehow slipstream some Windows settings into the CD - for example Icon spacings, Power Options, Taskbar properties, etc.

You can slipstream quite a bit of settings into Windows. It's about picking the right time.

1. T-39: This is the end of the character-mode copy, when the registry is first built. At this tume, the windows directory exists, but the user structure does not. So you can create here the users to any directory, and even change the names of the default and all users. Look for HIVEFIX for this.

Files in the $OEM$ structure are copied at this time.

2. T-12: This runs in the context of Default-User, so all user-settings apply to all new users. You can do a lot of things. T12 is somewhere in the middle of creating the general settings, so some settings made by CMDLINES.TXT are overwritten by some later processes.

3. User Logon: Some setup processes run in User First-Logon. Even if you run processes here, like fiddle around with the settings, some processes run after all of the things are set up. You may need to do this by way of a batch or .inf after all is set up.

After fiddling around a bit I realized all the settings can be found in the registry. It's just a case of exporting and saving the relevant strings in the registry to a .reg file and then adding the lines to the RunOnceEx.cmd file
