cluberti
IRQ sharing of IRQ's that high is usually fine, although seeing your video card and the USB controller on 16 is probably why the USB isn't working. I'd say you may have some BIOS settings causing this, and going in and choosing a reset to the defaults (if that option exists) is probably a good start, although you may need to reinstall. nmX.Memnoch
Sharing IRQ 16 shouldn't be a problem...it's a virtual IRQ as well. The actual IRQs go from 0 through 15. Check your Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) settings in the BIOS. If that's all working correctly Windows XP will take over IRQ control once it starts. I would try reinstalling the chipset drivers (using the latest version). Here's a list of mine for comparison. Note that I have several devices sharing IRQ 16.IRQ 0 System timer OK IRQ 5 Intel® ICH8 Family SMBus Controller - 283E OKIRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK IRQ 9 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System OK IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK IRQ 16 Intel® P965/G965/G35 PCI Express Root Port - 29A1 OK IRQ 16 NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT/GTO OK IRQ 16 Intel® ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2834 OK IRQ 16 Intel® ICH8 Family PCI Express Root Port 1 - 283F OK IRQ 16 NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller OK IRQ 16 1394B Host Controller OK IRQ 16 Intel® ICH8 Family PCI Express Root Port 5 - 2847 OK IRQ 16 JMicron JMB36X Controller OK IRQ 17 Intel® ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2835 OK IRQ 17 Intel® ICH8 Family PCI Express Root Port 2 - 2841 OK IRQ 17 Intel® PRO/1000 PT Desktop Adapter OK IRQ 17 NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller OK IRQ 17 JMB36X Standard Dual Channel PCIE IDE Controller OK IRQ 18 Intel® ICH8 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 283A OK IRQ 18 Intel® ICH8 Family PCI Express Root Port 3 - 2843 OK IRQ 18 Intel® ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2832 OK IRQ 19 NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller OK IRQ 19 Intel® ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2831 OK IRQ 19 Intel® ICH8R/ICH9R SATA RAID Controller OK IRQ 20 OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller OK IRQ 21 VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller OKIRQ 23 Intel® ICH8 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2830 OK IRQ 23 Intel® ICH8 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 2836 OK IRQ 23 Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM) OK Edited September 29, 2007 by nmX.Memnoch

303
nmX...not many options, it's a Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 rev 1.0 board btwI usuall keep my BIOS settings lean (disable any unneeded devices, etc.)and IRQ's and PCI assignments, etc. are set to "Auto"I've had to reinstall XP about 3 times since I built this rig within the last month (first time ever installing XP!), and I've finally got it running like it needs to aka not locking up / no chronic registry errors.Upgrading from a 98SE system with an Athlon 700MHz and a TNT2MX video card to an E6750 Core2Duo with a GeForce 8500GT sure is a BIG difference! So, I guess if it's not broke...I'll try the reload defaults thing and poke around a bit Edited September 30, 2007 by
Tripredacus
The typical rules I try to follow are: 1. No IRQ sharing with the Video card2. No IRQ sharing with an I/O controller (like the HDDC) that will perform a DMA.Sometimes you don't get an option to change them.
