On the application front dropped 2 YouTube downloaders (UltraGet and Save2PC) and added YouTube Downloader.

Java 7 has been released BUT Libre|Open Office doesn't recognise it and hence still require Java 6 update 26.

5eraph has informed me that despite what Windows Update indicates, the Fraudulent Digital Certificates updates are not in fact cumulative and hence Hotfix\624-WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB2524375-x64-ENU.exe should not be deleted and Hotfix\718-WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB2607712-x64-ENU.exe should be added.

Kurt_Aust, as always, thanks for all your efforts. I was checking to see if my DirectX was up to date and ran into some confusion. Only one of the two hash codes you post checks (MD5) against mine. If I use the direct DL symbol (underscore with down arrow), I get a file that no hash codes agree but if I use the link to MS Downloads, I get the MD5 to agree. The three codes I look at are:
CRC32: 9ECD3C73
MD5: 7C1FC2021CF57FED3C25C9B03CD0C31A
SHA-1: F8F1217F666BF2F6863631A7D5E5FB3A8D1542DF
All files are the same size. Which file is the correct one? Thanks and enjoy, John.

You're lucky you caught me, I was just about to head out for the weekend.

I've corrected the SHA-1 value and I suspect you just got a bad download from the direct link as it gives me a the correct hash values, does the copy you downloaded have a valid digital signature?

Kurt_Aust, you are correct. The one DL with the bad hash codes says the certificates on the signatures are not valid. I DLed again from both the direct and MS DL Center - codes and signatures are OK. The one I have been using was fine all along. Thanks and enjoy, John.

KB960803 (MS09-013) WinHTTP - Replaced by KB2638806 (MS12-006).

He knows about it, Explorer09. However, the Microsoft Update site checks for the following registry entry:

HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\HotFix\KB960803","Installed",0x10001,1

If it doesn't exist in the registry then MU will insist that KB960803 be installed. One sure way to get that registry entry is to install the update; the other is to add the entry manually.

I can guess the reason. KB960803 and KB2638806 patch no files in the Windows directory. What the installer was doing is copying the Winhttp.dll into a cache folder (%windir%\WinSxS). Since Windows Update cannot tell the exact path where the file is copied, it will check the "Installed" registry entry.

The same problem should happen with KB2659262, am I right?

The update site does indeed check for the KB2638806 and KB2659262 related "Installed" values without checking the installed files; adding the entries alone will fool the update site into believing they are installed (and is obviously not a good idea to do at this time as it will leave you vulnerable

).

The reason it doesn't check the files is unknown to me. But I can tell you that the site can tell the exact path where the files are copied, as it did with KB938464-v2 due to the fact that v1 of the update package had an installation issue.
