Last Versions of Software for Windows 98SE

 ONGD - FREE - Mozilla Sunbird V.0.9 --- http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/sunbird

While Gregory Braun's excellent fast and lightweight Calendar 2000 will suit most people, Mozilla Sunbird is a much more sophisticated calendar application that should suit the most stringent users.

It has a curious small bug when used on 98/ME systems whereby it will not print at the first attempt but will on the following attempts???

As of today February 1st 2010 Eset has removed all releases of  NOD32 V2.7 Anti Virus software from it's site completely. Virus Signature Database updates will cease on February 1st 2012.

http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2386

This has to have been one of the best AV applications ever designed for 98/ME systems, barely noticeable, even during updating and very configurable to your particular whims or needs.

The current v2.7.0.0 of IsoBuster http://www.isobuster.com/ does NOT install under Win98 anymore. What's the last version/build of IsoBuster which still works Ok under Win98?

I have IsoBuster 2.4 and it works under Win98 SE. From their changelog looks that 2.5.5 version ist the last compatible with older systems.

It's info from the 2.6 release:

PS. This version will not work anymore on old, officially "End Of Life", Microsoft OS: Windows 95, 98, ME and NT4 due to the too big differences between the early OS and the modern OS. It's simply not possible anymore to support and create functionality for the modern OS (XP, VISTA, 7) and still keep it compatible with the old OS.

Btw, have you tried to use KernelEx?

No. IsoBuster v2.5.5.1 of 8-Jul-2009 and another v2.5.5.1 of 16-Jul-2009 install Ok under Win98SE, but when you try to run them under Win98SE you get the following err msg: "Error Starting Program. The ISOBUSTER.EXE file links to missing export KERNEL32.DLL:GetFileSizeEx". The same for IsoBuster v2.5.5.0 Beta of 26-Jun-2009.
Btw, have you tried to use KernelEx?
No, I am using only plain-vanilla Win98SE, so I don't know whether IsoBuster v2.5.5.1 or higher work under KernelEx

v2.5.0.0 is definitely the last version which works under Win98SE. There are 2 different releases of v2.5.0.0, one of 19-Dec-2008, the other of 23-Dec-2008, both digitally signed, their only difference is possibly only an updated blacklist table. IsoBuster is the best protected shareware I have seen :w00t: . The PRO functionality of the registered v2.5.0.0 (e.g. extracting files from an InCD CD-RW) works fine under Win98SE.

IsoBuster http://www.isobuster.com has a lot of advanced special uses. It is very useful as an InCD reader under Win98 in my current project to archive old CD-RWs. I had gotten rid of Nero InCD v4.3.20.1 under Win98 years ago, with a special Nero InCD-CleanTool, because Nero InCD made my Win98 system unstable, and was left with no capability to access InCD CD-RWs under Win98. IsoBuster does not make Win98 unstable.

It seems that FreeCommander hasn't been mentioned...

Would any users of windows 98 recommend using the older FreeCommander as noted here, or is it preferable to use the newer one regardless if some function don't work properly.

This was kind of explained to me on another forum, but as long as viruses are caught and dealt with plus trojan web site then that's all I want.

This isn't real time though is it?

FreeCommander 2008.06c for Windows 95/98/NT4/2000/ME [2.14 MB]:

This older version [2008.06c] works 100% with all 9x OSes.

 LAST - FREE - VirusTotal Uploader 1.0 --- http://programy.pcworld.pl/pc/programy/19796/VirusTotal.Uploader.1.0.html

Allows the submission of any file directly to VirusTotal by adding it to the right click and Send To in the context menu. It will then automatically open the default browser on the VirusTotal website with the scanned results.

The current version 2.0 offered on the VirusTotal website does not support 98.

This site, which is reliable, is in Polish but it is self explanatory or view in Google Translate.
