Someone could update the Internet apps section with Yahoo! Messenger 8.10249 (site: oldversion.com) which works and is still compatible with Yahoo!'s current net protocols.

EDIT: Checked on WinMe. It takes some time before it logs-in (probably something with its network settings, happened on Longhorn builds too) but it works.

Version 8.1.0.421 also seems to work fine.

ONGD FREE Trillian 3.1.9.0
http://ceruleanstudios.com/downloads/

ONGD (invite only) Trillian Astra v4.0.0.78 [Alpha Testing]
http://www.trillian.im/

Are these the last 9X compatible versions, or were they the current versions at the time of this posting?

I initially downloaded version 3.1.15.0 and this threw an Access Violation Exception during installation.

However, I then figured the download URL for version 3.1.9.0 and installed this. During installation, it offered to download and update to version 3.1.15.0, which I accepted. So now version 3.1.15.0 is installed successfully. Perhaps if I didn't accept the update offer, and installed the previously-downloaded version 3.1.15.0 on top of version 3.1.9.0, this may also have been successful.

A word of warning: According to Avast, the optional "Ask toolbar" that comes with version 3.1.9.0 is infected by a Trojan or Virus or whatever. I had deselected this optional install anyway, but this seemed to put Avast into an infinite loop when I selected the "Delete" option, so I eventually had to tell Avast to take no action (the Trillion installation was progressing a bit at a time, but I lost patience with the recurring pop-up warning from Avast).

As for Trillian Astra v4.0.0.78, I couldn't find a copy of this anywhere (I presume this is also known as Trillian Astra Alpha Build 78), nor any version close to this.

Does anyone know where to download 'mtppk11.exe' (Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit, version 11)?

This was apparently the last W9X compatible version ...

Unless you got it already, here is the hard to find MTP9x-2k: http://www.mediafire...r155zetst89543n

MTPPK10 or 11 are apparently only for XP from what i gather

Version 12 is available from MS but requires WGA for dowloading it and version 11 nowhere to be found but version 10 can be downloaded freely here in case you think something might be compatible in it: http://am.net/lib/to...nXP/mtppk10.exe

Have you got an older porting kit?

Version 12 is useless for 9x/ME, but sure one can download it. Read this.

Hmmm ... I've searched high and low, I've previously found the above 'mtp9x-2k' and 'mtppk10', but not 'mtppk11'. The MS link to 'mtppk11' redirects to 'mtppk12' (BTW, I can use GenuineCheck 1.7.0069.2 to complete this download) and the two "rapidshare" links I've found for 'mtppk11' are defunct.

As for versions 10 and 11 only supporting XP or greater, this is incorrect. Version 10 definitely supports W98 (but is dated) and I've seen many reports of people installing version 11 on W98.

Well, I've finally tracked down a copy of 'mtppk11.exe' at this part-time web server : http://dizzyonion.dy...0Porting%20Kit/

Comparison to mtppk10 : Apart from a few updated DLLs, code samples and utilities, it includes the above 'MTP9x-2k' and also 'wpdmtp_sample.inf' (kinda useful!). On the negative side, it omits 'wmdmcmd.exe' and 'readme_wmdmcmd.txt', so you still need 'mtppk10' for these (actually, the latest version of 'wmdmcmd.exe' I can find is in the huge 'p4sdevicekit.exe' package, but MS didn't have any room there to fit the "readme" file).

So, with 'MTP9x-2k.exe', 'wpdmtp_sample.inf', 'wmdmcmd.exe' (and 'readme_wmdmcmd.txt'), you have rudimentary support for PTP/MTP devices in Win98/SE/ME. Install 'MTP9x-2k', make an INF file for your device using 'wpdmtp_sample.inf' as your template (use 'usbview' to find the appropriate PID and VID values), then use this to install the device driver. Finally, use the (rather crude) 'wmdmcmd' utility to copy files to/from your device, etc. (hint, 'wmdmcmd' can operate in command-line mode, so you can take advantage of the command-line editing features of 'doskey').

Ummm ... Why are we talking about Version 12 of the 'mtppk'? I thought the topic here was "Last Versions of Software for Windows 98SE"

So the relevant version is 11, and also 10, for the 'wmdmcmd.exe' and 'readme_wmdmcmd.txt' bits (however, a later 'wmdmcmd.exe' is available in ''p4sdevicekit.exe').

opera 10.10 is the last version which supports the old java plugin
for java 5 Update 22 and java 6 Update 7
http://www.mdgx.com/add.htm#JAVA

Hmmm ... Is that why I can't seem to get Java working for Opera 11.11 (with KernelEx 4.5.1)?
I've JRE 1.5 update 22 installed, and this is confirmed using web page http://javatester.org/version.html with both IE and Bon Echo (FireFox), but not Opera.

Is there any work-around to get Java working for Opera 11.11?

Joe.

PS. This questions really belongs in thread http://www.msfn.org/...ility-database/ if not for the fact that the above information concerning Opera and Java is found here, in this thread ...

A few days ago I mentioned about Stinger being updated ... for a quick check of some viruses on a computer. There is also another free virus/spyware checker that I used to also use on my computer a few years back. It's called Multi Virus Cleaner but it hadn't been updated since 2009 when I last checked ... decided to check it out again today ... discovered that it has been updated to 2011. It is still "free" and I just ran it on Windows 98SE and had no problems. I decided to post information about it here. In the past, Stinger always seem to be updated more often than Multi Virus Cleaner but it's a nice quick check program also. Maybe it will be updated more often in the future.

Multi Virus Cleaner 2011 v11.5.2 - (May 13th, 2011)

http://www.viruskeeper.com/us/mvc.htm

Multi Virus Cleaner 2011 (MVC) : detects and removes major viruses and spyware.

Multi Virus Cleaner is a free, stand-alone utility used to detect and remove major viruses. It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist administrators and users when cleaning infected systems.

Multi Virus Cleaner is regularly updated and can detect over 14,500 common viruses, worms, trojans and spyware (including all variants of the Sober, MyDoom and Bagle viruses).

The program boasts a fast, user-friendly scanner that requires minimal processing power and is an excellent choice for repairing a compromised system.

The new 2011 version also detects and removes major spyware.

OK- This will be a short question I try to write as related to my problem as possible.
I HAVE SEARCHED AND SEARCHED UNDER THE FORUM AND EVRY WHERE AT THE INTERNETT...But can not see any with the problem that JAVA will simply not even start to try to install...It just come up with a timeglass and dissapear, like nothing happens.

I have a Acer Ferrari 3000, decided to install windows 98se at it, and everything is working smooth, EXEPT JAVA... ok I know that there is alot of treads about this but I havent found any solution in the topics around my question.

I have installed all my drivers and everything seems to working fine..installed them without kernelEX, so I have installed opera ver 10.63.
I then decided to try KernelEX and install ver 1111 of opera and I could also install that one without any problem...the browser is working smooth and great cause ogf kernelex...So My PC is pretty much bup running. EXEPT JAVA part

so here are my facts.

q1 When I try to sīnstall java ver 5 in windows 98se without kernelex it will not start to install att all...the timeglass comes and the instal will not start at all! So I cant even get that in.Why is it not installing shouldnt java ver 5 install without any problem under normal Windows 98se platform`?

q2 The same happens if I try forexample newest JAva under KernelEX under all compitability modes...win2000, XPsp2 vista and so on. It will not simply not strat to install...I try to install it under the comman line with silent install...but NO hope...Can anyone ogf your heroes tell me what to do to install Java.

THIS IS MY DREAM QUESTION TO SOLVE!! :

q3. My hope is that someone can in details tell me how to install Java ver 6 with lataest updates under KernelEX and get it working under Opera 11.11..cause I can install Opera 11.11 with kernel X in mode windows 2000...BUT NOT any JAVA...Help would be Really appriciated... SO main problem is no java install will not simply start at all!!!! Even java 5.0 under windows 98se .-.
But as I said my dream is of course to get java 6 working under opera 11.11 with Kernelex...

Help is really appriciated, specially since this is the last thing I really need to solve to make my PC a super PC... :)
And I want to say thank you for a great forum

Kevin
