I have a faculty member that is trying to change his lecture which was made in powerpoint 2003. When he tries to draw a line, whether it be a plain line or curve, it turns into an arrow. I've tried to convert the file to a 2007 document. That just gets rid of a lot of elements in the documents. Is there something quick that anybody knows about or a patch?

the "arrow" setting is fixed to all types of drawing ...
u can overwrite this by manually edit the lines ... once u're satisfied with the new settings/properties of the line, right-click on it. Select "Set AutoShape Defaults". This will 'fixed' the new settings on all new autoshapes ....
