I know this has been asked millions of times before but how do I install WMP silently?
I have searched and tried most switches and methods I have found but result is one of these:

I get the system restore message... OR:

I get no installion errors or other messages but it is not installed either!
Example: using this line on SVCPACK.INF:

MP10Setup.exe /Q:A /C:"setup_wm.exe /DisallowSystemRestore /Q /R:N"

They say this line SHOULD work but nothing happens for me...

This is only thing wrong with my unattended installs for windows 2000 and XP and I have wasted two days testing varios switches and methods without any success...

If it matters I'm using finnish version of both WMPs and windows OSes...

Do NOT tell me to:
-Use WMP11 as it does not work XP SP1
-Use XP SP2
-Use some silent installer that is made from english version of WMP for english version of windows

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

For WMP11 I use:

wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe /q:A /c:"setup_wm.exe /Q /R:N /P:#e /DisallowSystemRestore /SetWMPAsDefault

Which was the same as I use to use for WMP10.

It's be soooo long since I have even seen WMP9 I cannot comment on that version.

Kind Regards

Simon

Thanks for reply but this line:

MP10Setup.exe /Q:A /C: "setup_wm.exe /Q /R:N /P:#e /DisallowSystemRestore /SetWMPAsDefault"

didn't work... didn't get any messages but it did not install either... WMP is still version 8.00.00.4487...

I have tried many diffirent lines for both SVCPACK.INF, CMDLINES.TXT and RunOnceEx.cmd
and tried to repack MP10setup.exe many times...
I don't think i'm "1337" enough to edit the .inf files either.
No matter what I do I cannot get WMP10 install silently so:

Does anyone have "WMP10_Slipstreamer_V11.cmd" from this thread:
http://www.msfn.org/board/WMP10_Slipstream..._11_t35943.html

Actually is WMP actually needed for anything? I don't actually use it to play anything...
but I think streaming videos (Youtube, SopCast and other similar things) use it.

I have now wasted four days trying to get this work without anykind of success so any kind of reply is welcome!

maybe your text was off somewhere. i have always used this:

MP10Setup.exe /q:A /c:"setup_wm.exe /Q /R:N DisallowSystemRestore"

and never had a problem once.

LegendaryXL thanks for reply but directly copy pasting your line produces switch syntax error but if I put space after /c: I don't get any errors it just doesn't install...

I have tried everything I can think of and nothing seems to work...

Here are some lines I have tried in SVCPACK.INF:

MP10Setup.exe /Q:A /C:"setup_wm.exe /DisallowSystemRestore /Q /R:N"

MP10Setup.exe /Q:A /C: "setup_wm.exe /Q /R:N /P:#e /DisallowSystemRestore /SetWMPAsDefault"

MP10Setup.exe /q:A /c: "setup_wm.exe /Q /R:N DisallowSystemRestore"

MP10Setup.exe /q:A /c: "setup_wm.exe /Q /R:N /P:#e"

MP10Setup.exe /Q:A /R:N /C:"setup_wm.exe /DisallowSystemRestore /Q:A /R:N"

"MP10Setup.exe /c:""setup_wm.exe /Q /R:N /DisallowSystemRestore"" /q:A"

"MP10Setup.exe /q:A /c:""setup_wm.exe /Q /R:N /DisallowSystemRestore"""

all of them are said to be working but they do nothing for me.

I have made many attemps to repack installer but it haven't changed anything either... no message, no install!

Are there any registry entries that MUST be applied or absolutely must not be applied before install?
Are any programs, registry entries or other things that are known to interfere with installion?

Here is my SVCPACK.INF if it matters at all:

BuildNumber=2600

Any ideas why it seems to skip MP10setup.exe as everything else installs just fine?

sorry that i didnt mention this earlier, but i use a batch file. it's after windows has installed (sometimes you can use it in the cmdlines.txt) but just a regular batch file Startup.bat (or something) with that line inside.

Hi,

Are you installing the Windows Installer 3.1 v2 update at any point?

If so make sure this happens early in the post XP install process.

I am fairly sure that the WMP installers are .MSI installers so you need to ensure you can install .MSI files correctly.

If WMP is still not installing then check for an install log file in your Windows system folder to see what issues the WMP installer has found.

The command line I posted earlier in this thread DOES work so something else is causing your WMP install issues.

Is the XP activated before you run the WMP installer? You will probably find that activation is needed for WMP 10 or 11 can be installed.

I also note you are calling QCHAIN at the end of your install process. This is NOT needed for Windows XP or Vista.

Kind Regards

Simon
