Certainly not FULL compatibility by any means, however I spotted a lone Windows 98 program/driver for the MSI NF725GM-P43 called AMD Cool and Quiet Driver.

BCMCOM BC875PLG(-LF) works near perfectly with Win98SE, with the exception of onboard SATA in certain configurations.

Then my SATA Patch should bring it to perfection.

Fujifilm digital camera A170, but not with the supplied version of FinePix software, you need to find an earlier version such as 5.3.10E (eg. for S6500fd) for W98-compatibity (the supplied USB driver is OK, but seems useless without that cumbersome software). Note, these cameras use the PTP/MTP interface, not mass storage, so you're basically forced to use their drivers and software.

Panasonic Lumix digital camera DMC-LS80. (Uses mass storage interface, so standard file access works fine.)

Joe.

[Edit: Corrected some details about the A170 driver.]

I had one Silicon Image SIL3114 4x SATA RAID card and it always caused stack overflow when driver got installed in win98se. I tried different BIOSes but nothing helped but I did manage to find a fix for that at cost of no SATA seen in DOS which is disconnecting !CE line of the flash on the card and tying it to 3.3V. Boot is faster, no SATA in DOS, and no stack overflow error in windows, no shutdown problems and drives show up nicely in windows with no performance problems ^^

Windows ME has built in support. All you have to do is plug it in, you don't have to search the net for drivers. :)

Please, anyone note:

There is no proof, nor any hint, that any Intel chipset of the x900xx Series can be used with W98SE, or, probably, any W9x/ME, except for the x915xx.

There is no such driver to be found.

The only one person stating this is the starter of this thread (no offense, galahs, forgive me).

There is virtually no other location on the internet than this thread on MSFN that makes this statement.

Hallo ragnargd,

xrayer's driver supports ICH7 chipsets 945/946/975/955/31/41. He added driver for ICH10 chipsets, but it can be that the driver doesn't work correctly. I've tested successfully the driver for G31, G41, i945. The intel onboard graphics and sound aren't supported by the driver.

Hi, here comes another:

i want to add a passivly cooled card to my next W98SE box.
Because of compatibility with XP and W7, i want to stick to Geforce 6xxxx YZ with 256MB, and the 77.72 driver.
My other card, a Geforce 6600 APG 256MB runs very well, but, well, faster is always better.
I'd like to get something faster, still, but the only suitable model is a Geforce 6600 GT 256MB...
... PCI-E ...
(i know of four models that have this combo: GV-RX80L256V, GV-NX66T256DE, NX6600GT-TD256EZ, and 90-C1VGH0-HUAYZ. Some of them pop up now and then on ebay)
As i have suitable motherboards to choose from, no roblem with PCI-E. But as i'd have to buy that card via ebay, i'd like to make sure i don't do something stupid.
But, after reading through the many threads on GPUs, i'm even more confused than before:
Does this PCI-E-card work with the 77.72 driver? (It would be "Not OOB, but unpack, and choose manually... but, i'm not sure if that is a suggestion, or a tried and true method).

I'm not an expert on anything and I'm not a gamer either,
but for what it's worth, here is some information from someone
who is using a Nvidia 6600 PCI-e video card in Windows 98SE.

There is no reference to any PCI Express cards in the nvagp.inf for the
official 77.72 driver for Windows 98SE. However the driver does
support the chip on the card. So it's a matter of inducing Windows
to load the driver anyway. Just pointing Windows to the driver files
is not enough. It will copy the files but refuse to load them -- usually.
If you are persistent, Windows will eventually display the message:

"The driver you are trying to install was not written specifically for your
hardware. Do you want to install it anyway?"

If you say yes at this point, Windows will copy the files, offer to reboot and
then load the drivers. The first time I attemped this, it took me 2 hours to induce
the message! Later I learned how to modify the inf file, so the driver installed
normally.

I added the following line to the section [Mfg]

%NVIDIA&DEV_0141.DeviceDesc% = NV30, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0141

I added the following line to the section [Strings]

NVIDIA&DEV_0141.DeviceDesc="NVIDIA GeForce 6600 PCI-Express 16X"

After that all I had to do was click the Setup file in the 77.72 folder.

For me this PCI-e card gives me all I need for 2d and 3d display in 98, 2K and Linux.
Occasionally when booting into Windows 98, I will get a distorted display, but it's
quickly corrected with a change in color depth. After that there are no other issues.
Sfor has complained about frequent display distortions in DOS applications and
utilities. I have not seen this on my box. If you have DOS games, it could be a problem.

I have also used a 6800 GT card in this box. It was even more stable than the 6600 card
as far as screen distortion is concerned. However, I had other issues with it. The program
VLC would not run properly if 'Use hardware YUV-RGB conversions' was checked in preferences.
An analog WINTV card also displayed video as if no driver were installed. The game 'TuxRacer'
did not run correctly and 'Abe's Amazing Adventure' would not start at all. 3D Pinball ran O.K.
That card was a powered card. I don't know if that made a difference in either case. The problems
disappeared after I switched to the 6600.

It appears that Hitachi and possibly others are selling some 2TB, and possibly smaller, USB Hard Drives using 4KB Logical Sectors. These Drives are incompatable with Windows 9X without Patching.
I just purchased a Touro Desk 2TB USB 3.0 Drive on Black Friday that did this. Previously I had only seen this done on USB Drives larger than 2TiB. My Patched System supports these Drives but others don't.
If more Drives come out using 4KB Logical Sectors, Windows 9X users will have fewer options for large USB Drives.

Currently, Western Digital's entire line of Green drives are 4KB sectors. Previously, within the Green series, only the larger capacities were 4KB. The transition is beginning to accelerate.

You are referring to "Advanced Format" Drive that have 4KB Physical Sectors. Advanced Format Drives require special Formatting to avoid performance problems, but they are compatable with Windows 9x with the 137GB Fix. I am referring to 4KB Logical Sector Drives which are not compatable without my Terabyte Plus Patches. Currently only certain USB Hard Drives use 4KB Logical Sectors.

3Com 3CRPAG175B

This is a Wifi PC/Cardbus card with the XJack pop out antenna, which is quite nice for older laptops without built in WiFi:

Posted Image

This card sometimes turns up quite cheaply on Ebay, especially if poorly described :), but please don't pay $$$$ for it on the expectation that it will definitely work. If anyone else has it working or not after following these directions it may be helpful to follow up on this post.

Had a struggle getting it working on ME as the drivers seemed to have a .sys file for Win9x missing, in the end I guessed that the XP one was designed to work on 9x too but the .inf file hadn't been updated to reflect this.

So I got it working by creating a duplicate .sys file with the name referred to in the .inf file. I then found it wouldn't work with all versions of the 3Com wireless utility, but found one that's suitable. Tested on WinME but I expect it should work on Win98SE too.

The following files all need a Google account to download them, if anyone would like to mirror them please feel free. The first file is just the drivers, the second the Wireless Utility to go with them, the third file is a compilation of all the different Win9X and XP files I found for this card by trawling the web, in case it helps anyone.

3com_3crpag175b_drv1.1.0.21 Drivers only, renamed for Win9xME.zip 502KB:

3Com 3CR175 3CR175b drivers and utilities pack.zip 42.4MB

There's also a 3CRPAG175 version (no 'B') which I haven't tried but the above zip file containing some drivers which appear to include Win9x, so it might be worth a go. If someone does try it please post how it goes. :)

cheers, Pete.

Do you have the card, if so have you tried it with the above files?

It worked fine for me on ME, used Opera quite a bit through the wifi. There's an entry for NdisQueryBufferSafe in the .sys file, looked for it with a hex editor.

cheers, Pete.

Thanks Galah, I am just about to build a 98 System. Why/ Because I can. At least, I think so.

Are there win-98se drivers for a GeForce 8400gs video card?  The card in question is PCI (not PCIe or AGP) with 512 mb ram.

Can Windows 98 works fine with 1 GB DDR2 RAM, 2 GHz AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3000+, ATI Radeon X1200?

I checked that my motherboard M2A-VM will work just fine with Windows 98 SE. :thumbup

The hard disk (80 GB) is fine for FAT 32.

Im only worried about the RAM, processor and video card listed above...

There is no driver for ATI Radeon X1200. The driver ATI Catalyst 6.2 works up to X850. The universal VESA/VBE Video Display Driver should work, but it's a very simple one and does not provide any kind of 3D hardware acceleration (DirectX & OpenGL). http://bearwindows.b...d.net/vbe9x.htm

An entry in the System.ini is required to use 1GB RAM:

[vcache]
MaxFileCache=393216

Also other values work up to 524288.

So even my old PC is f*cked! :D But anyway I will think about the 3D hardware acceleration if I really need it because on this PC I never play modern games from 2004+.

EDIT: I'm preparing 3 CD's - 100 000 drivers one (95-Vista), CD with vital programs and the VESA/VBE Driver and Windows 98 SE Bootable. I will try to make this PC 98 friendly and IF needed I will remove the first RAM chip to decrease the RAM (my PC says 896 MB). After installing SP 3.29 I think that the limit will be destroyed. Stay tuned this days...

You forgot about the timing problems which stop Windows 95 from being usable on CPU speeds higher than 350 Mhz, and Windows 98 FE (and consequently Win95) from being usable on CPU speeds higher than 2.2 Ghz.

I don't really think this is true. I've been able to run Windows 95 on a Celeron 353 M @ 900 MHz with no problems. I do sometimes get a BSOD when I reboot after making a lot of configuration changes, but it's not that common.

Are there any Windows 95 drivers for an Intel 915GM chipset?

True it is. But that has been solved by LoneCrusader, since then: Windows 95 2.1GHz CPU Limit BROKEN!

This is the second time the answer to your question is easily findable in the Important / "Stickified" / Pinned Windows 95/98/98 SP1/98 SE/ME Topics sticky, which you should read...

Are there any Windows 95 drivers for an Intel 915GM chipset?

Sort of... The unofficial SNAP driver should solve both your graphic and sound problems... here's the unofficial SNAP FAQ may be handy. The UniVBE entry at the English Wikipedia may be relevant, too.
