Hi all,

I've accidently cracked my Laptop screen (dropped it down the stairs) and I'm wondering how I would replace it? I have some idea on how to put it together (already taken the cracked on out) but wondering whether there are specific screens for scpecific laptops (don't know much about them)

It's a cheap

E-System
13.3 inch screen
Intel celeron M430 1.73GHZ
Intel 943GML (calistoga) + ICH7-M

Most parts are pretty specific.

But in all of e-bay you couldn't find the actual same thing?

Nope, I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find a replacement.

Are you saying even though it's the same size fit, it might not work?

Yeah see all the white molding on the back??

If it looks the same as yours it might work but look really, really closely and also look at the connector.

But hey it's cheap youre not out much if it doesn't work...

Mines got a totally different back to it, same color just not those indents and divets. The fitting also looks different.

Looks as if I might have to take it upto PC world to see what they can do...dread to think the charges they'll cough up for a generally inexpensive part!

Anyway, it's shocking how easily these screens smash....I know it fell down a flight of stairs, but nothing else even scratched!

"generally inexpensive part!" since when? The laptop LCD is the first or second most expensive part in a laptop depending upon model. It fights with the laptop motherboard for position. Expect anywhere from $150 to $500(US) depending upon size and age. Possibly more, quite often you are better off buying a new laptop, this is reason I always tell people to get accidental damage protection warranties on laptops, especially for students.

Andrew932, Just contact the maker of the laptop, you can find the contact on there site or in your warranty description. If that not helps look at the label(s) at the back of the screen and we will try to find out who made it and where you can order a new one. Prepare to pay 100US$ for handling and transport too if it comes from Asia.

I just wonder how far you want to go . You could always sell the laptop like it is now and buy another one...

doesn't the one you have removed have a serial of some kind, brand, model?
(see the picture in the linked page)

Sometimes with the serial a google search can help in finding the right spare.

The vast majority of screens used in all makes of laptop are produced by Sharp Electronics. As such you should be able to use a screen from another make/model as long as the size/resolution is the same and attach your laptop's broken screen's inverter & connectors to the common points. I have swapped IBM/Acer screens into Dell's and vice versa.

The one you found seems like the site of the actual manufacturer, in China.

I doubt they will ever shop a single piece, maybe you can mail them to ask them for your national reseller or for any (small) company they have supplied the screen in the past, these kinds of screens are also used in "industrial appliance" types of machines, like CNC and the like.

This one appears to be more (geographically) accessible, but you won't like the price...

Thanks for the link! No way am I paying that though, I might as well sell the laptop off as spair parts then buy the screen.
