One of my customers has following problem: (Vista Home Premium + Office 2007):
* Word 2007 crashes about 6 seconds after start-up with the standard MS message: Program encountered problem and will be closed etc.
* When using Word with the 2nd user account on the same system, the problem does not occur.
* Apparently there has recently been a virus in this system that has been detected and removed by McAfee (not known which virus)
* Re-installation does not solve the problem
* Other programs in Office 2007 work OK
Any suggestions?

Word 2007 does not work anymore (crashes upon start)

User specific settings for word 2007 are stored in:
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Word12.pip
Auto recovery documents are stored in:
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\OFFICE\12.0
Various registry settings for word are stored in the registry at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word
you can safely delete the contents of those folders (i checked by renaming) and only affect your user specific settings. perhaps something has gone wonky with your configuration files

Thank you for your response. I passed it on to the user.
In the mean time, someone had told him to remove the file mxfilerelatedcache.mxC2 from all folders and according to the user, this solved the problem.
As mxfilerelatedcache.mxC2 is an innocent file used by Magix, I think that something that he did while deleting all these files may have reset his profile.
Let's see what happens in the future. Case closed, for now.
