I am upgrading an Abit IB9 motherboard with a Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 to a Core 2 Quad Q6600. I upgraded the BIOS from version 11 to version 13 as the most recent BIOS for this motherboard. Win XP Pro SP2 refuses to boot unless the CPU multiplier is reduced to 8 and only intermittenly. I cannot run a repair installation because the repair hangs because it states that NTkernalos.exe (or something like that) is not readable. I downgraded the BIOS back to the original version 11 and the system boots although it reports the CPU frequency 600 Mhz. And the system crashes unpredictibly.
Any ideas what is going on and what I should do? ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.

Sounds like overheating or not enough juice (voltage).

What info does your BIOS give for Vcore? What cooler are you using? Any temperatures readouts that are too high (e.g. 80+ oC)?
