makecab /D CompressionType=LZX oobe.inf
too ?

That's what i did.

I got an error message during the install. It mentions an error of signature and an irrecoverable error :}

modifype it first, then compress it

Yeah, i think about it so i tried "modifype filename.xxx -c" for msobshel.htm, ident2.htm and oobe.inf but that didn't work. I got the message "this is not a PE file". Should i use another switch ?

Modifype is for executables and such. Maybe no good for html files, etc. As header of file may not contain crc info.

Could be the inf files that you would have edited?

I reedited them .. still no luck. I also tried another possibility : i let the edited layout.inf, txtsetup.sif and dosnet.inf ... and kept the original ident2.ht_, msobshel.ht_ and oobe.in_. Same error. So i guess these three last files are not involved in the problem.

By the way, here are the entried i removed :

dosnet.inf :
d1,intro.wmv
d1,title.wma

layout.inf :
intro.wmv = 1,,665107,,,,,,3,3
title.wma = 1,,2624518,,,,,,3,3

txtsetup.sif :
intro.wmv = 1,,,,,,,,3,3
title.wma = 1,,,,,,,,3,3

Oh it's not necessary to remove intro.wm_ and title.wm_ and all these entries ! I made it work just with the modified ident2.ht_, msobshel.ht_ and oobe.in_. No video, no sound .. directly the screen resolution check and the username step :w00t:

Cool, you got it. I edited the 3 files, because my windows wanted to copy them. After that it was okay.

This thread is about OOBE stuff?
You do not have to activate during an installaton. It is an option. You still have a couple of weeks or so to judge whether install turned out good or not, before activating. No hacking or cracking involved, just preference and options.

Yes i activate my Windows only after Installation when i need this. And the stuff we are talking about is the oobe stuff after the screen resolution change. There is no activating in normal Windows XP ;) And here is no cracking... Only skipping several more screens which aren't nessaccary.

Cheers, xneogen :w00t:

xneogen, that's ALMOST exactly what i've been looking for as well. I have been successfull in modifying my oobe to the point where I cannot seem to get rid of the auto update screen. your little Tweak" did the trick

Isn't the syssetup.dll hack a lot easier?
