After using vLite to trim Vista, I noticed that IE always shows Protected Mode: OFF in the bottom right of the IE window.

In IE options screen, I have the box for Protected Mode selected. If I try to clear the check box, I get a warning not to turn off Protected Mode.

Any idea on what feature of Vista I deleted with vLite to cause Protected Mode to be off?

Thanks

The same thing here... I also installed the latest Firefox, and I must say IE7 is way better and feature-fulled than Ff. Except that annoying reopened tabs, which is more cool on Ff, even that I installed IE7Pro.

Back to the basic problem - anyone knows a solution for this "Protected Mode: OFF"-thing?

Ye i have that, in IE its enabled (ticked) but just stays off, if i untick it then apply, then re-enable it.... it just stays off.

This talk looks familiar. Essentially it's UAC that you guys need to enable if I remember correctly.

Btw built-in Administrator which you log-on to by skipping user creation does not have UAC enforced on him by default even if UAC seems enabled.
Create another Admin-priviledged user and try it there or tamper with the policies.
