Fiber technology continues to become more flexible and less expensive, which should result in a ramp-up of FTTH installs over the next few years. Corning's new bendable fiber should make apartment installations much easier, and the technology (which uses nanostructures to act as light guardrails) has already caught the eye of Verizon. Similar bendable fiber solutions have also popped up in South Korea, though they're made of plastic.

A similar project in Europe aims to reduce the cost of installations via the use of plastic optical fiber (POF). EU-funded POF-ALL project has been working on making apartment installs less expensive. Such cabling efforts usually account for 30% of a FTTH line's installation costs. The project also means to make optical networking safer for home do-it-yourself installs, since staring down a live fiber line can cause eye damage.

This would be really great if their claims are true.

PLastic is allways moving and if there is intense heat it could cause the plastic to shift. It would have to be sheilded from heat.

About light traveling threw wires to deliver information this is not new and is in the class of infared tech.

By reading this I am guessing it will be a line that is directing ifared light/radiation threw wires which is harmless in general.

Another thing is that this is light and light is produced from a heat source of some sort unless the light has a temp that has no heat from it.

Again what about if the wires is cut???

Again next we will hear about the Pryimids are really just space ships and there was a great war and they sent threre information throw Stone optics and not threw the talking bird that Fred Flinstone use.

Each of your statements applies to glass (fiber optics), too, and to copper to a lesser extent. Not all plastic is the same. There are many varieties with many different properties.

Compared to copper, this technology could be cheaper (depending on oil prices) and safer (non-conductive).

Copper isn't going anywhere. Neither is fiber. It is good to have options.
