Hi,

before i install and try, maybe one of ur guys already done this.

I wanna use a Win98 PC as a kind of server in my home-network.
Because i wanna control this PC via TightVNC remotly, i plan this PC to be monitor-, keyboard- and mice-less after installation.

Q 1: Anyone know Problems with Win98 and no monitor, no keyb. and no mice (accept from not being really "useable" LOL)

Q 2: Anyone know if i am able to use keyboard and mice if connected remotly to this PC (remember it has no devices, so the drivers havent been loaded)?

Q 3: If i have to install keyb. and mice, are there device-dummies outthere? I mean, KVM switches do emulate connected devices, are there such mini-adapters directly for PS/2 or USB sold outthere in the world?

Thanks,
B.Poller

I have a W95 system running without KVM. It works fine with UltraVNC. Alas I couldn't find a way to make W95 running without videocard, so I had to sacrifice one (ISA) slot. You'll have to setup the BIOS not to complain about a missing keyboard, else you'll have to 'press F1 to continue' booting.

Shouldn't have any trouble. I run the same setup from time to time using RealVNC.

Just make sure beforehand you ensure the following:

- If it was a PS/2 mouse it used to have. It will complain about a mouse not being connected on boot. Simply check in with the keyboard 'Do not notify me again'.
- You must have a video card w/ drivers installed. Most if not all VNC's are dependant on the video card for resolution and screen polling.
- As previously stated. Make sure the bios also has error reporting turned off for keyboards. Such an option would typically be 'All but Keyboard' under the standard settings.
