In windows xp the activation license was stored in wpa.dbl, with the backup wpa.bak. There are public microsoft articles that say if you want to backup your xp license, you can copy wpa.bak to some safe place, format and reinstall xp, and you should be able to copy wpa.bak to wpa.dbl to restore your license, saving you an activation.

It seems vista doesn't use wpa.dbl. Does anyone know if you can do anything simliar in vista? In other words, is there a way to backup your license so if you have to format or reinstall and you're prompted to activate you can just restore your license so you don't have to backup?
