chilling Posted January 30, 2008 Share Posted January 30, 2008 My router recognizes my extender and vice versa but I can't get any further than thatI either get error message 0000002 or 00000204Microsoft reports reason for error ooooo204 to be too many psotings in the security section of event viewerI have only one post there I have deleted messages in other sections of event viewer to no availI have checked firewall in windows and trend microI have made sure fast switching is enabledI have reset reformatted and went up and down the stairs countless timesSuggestions please Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
chilling Posted February 2, 2008 Author Share Posted February 2, 2008 Thanks for all the help or not ... even one suggestion.I found the solution on another site after weeks of trying every thing that was suggested. This applies to any virus software program. Even though I set the firewall setitngs to allow for the neccesary ports for the media extender it wasn't enough..."I figured out what was causing my 00000204. It was McAfee, but not the firewall like one would suspect but Spamkiller. Once I uninstalled that, everything was fine. If you have McAfee or any other multi-module security package, uninstall it completely and then see if your extender works. Don't just disable it. That won't help. Also a good idea to disconnect from the net while you're trying this, because you'll be without protection while you're doing this. Then reinstall the program one module at a time, and check your connection each time. You shouldn't have to reinstall the MCX software, just hit okay after each module install, and see if the error comes up.To reset the MCX, turn it off, hold the standby button (the one farthest to the right) and turn on the MCX. After 5 seconds release the button and then press it again for 5 seconds. When you release it, the center button should flash blue then turn back to green, and the MCX should be reset.Hope this helps. I spent hours trying to figure it out, and Linksys support was absolutely no help at all. Their typical response is that the hardware is defective and should be sent to them for repair.
