I'm trying to get this regtweak to work. Its suppose to use to trick programs into installing when its not a supported os. I can't get it to work. Help would be appreciated. Gosh? AaronXP? Anyone?

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
"ProductName"="Microsoft Windows XP"
"CurrentVersion"="5.1"
"CurrentBuildNumber"="2600"
"BuildLab"="2600.1106"

Wouldn't compatibility mode do that? Without knowing the specific program it might be hard to say what to do.

what program are you trying to install? There arent many programs anymore that arent runable under windows xp. Like gosh said if you want to make the program think its running on another os you dont change that registry value all you do is make the program use windows compatibility mode. To do that just right click on the shortcut of the program and a click on properties. Then tab to compatibility and check run this program in compatibility mode for and you should choose win 98 since most programs are runable on win 98.

thank you mstest. certain programs bring up dialog boxes during their installation. I just wanted to trick the programs into believing their windows xp. They install just fine. Thanks again for everyone's help.
