SO - ISP's are junk. That said ( and most likely agreed by all that they are scum sucking leechs that change TOS's on a whim to make more money and gouge consumers ((im not bitter))

I have a network @ home - wireless - and wired, about 5-10 network nodes give or take on a given day. I need a tool that will monitor WAN activity - but ignore ( or separate LAN activity ) for the whole shabang.

Essentially I need to figure out my bandwidth usage for a month as the ISP is going to start charging overages. But their measurement tool sucks and is not accurate in the least

Anyone have any suggestions / ideas?

NetLimiter can do this for you. I'm not sure if the free version supports this, but the pro edition does.

http://www.dumeter.com/ can do that i think. you might also look into a custom firmware for your router/access point. http://www.polarcloud.com/tomato on my WRT54g will let me save bandwidth logs which i could probably split into wired/wireless if i had to (it has daily/weekly logs but they are for all PCs)

Actually, while I like DUMeter, I found that it doesn't allow exceptions based on IP address like others do. You can specify a NIC to monitor and that's fine if you use two different ones for WAN and LAN. However, if like many you just connect to a router through only one NIC then you'll need another solution.

I'm currently using BWMeter v3.3.3 available from http://www.desksoft.com which very neatly displays Internet activity and LAN activity separately as well as daily, weekly, and monthly totals.

NetLimiter will also work, and has other functions as well.
