VistaSP1 Problem

Recommended Posts

So finally I Re-downloaded the Preintegrated VistaSP1 from MSDN and guess what...its MD5 and CRC32 matched exactly with the one I referred in my other post (the one which I got from Torrent Network). Pretty frustrating...redownloading such a huge file again is not a joke. But anyway...

So the problem which I referred in my previous post still remaing with this "Legal" VistaSP1 ISO.

I'm unable to make any windows features On or Off after Vliting it and it errors out with "An error has occurred. Not all of the features were successfully changed". The same removal settings work flawlessly in Plain Vista. My "Last Session.ini" is in attachment.

I vlited SP1, but only to remove languages and drivers. I didn't remove any features, and it appears you've done something to break that (obviously) but I'm not sure exactly what it could be. However, removing System Information could be somewhat dangerous, as well as the Diagnostics and Performance Monitor service.

It's really hard to say, but if you've got the time you could do a section at a time and rebuild in a VM to see what breaks it. With all the trouble vLite had with installing SP1 on a vLite-d machine, I'm not sure it's safe to remove anything other than languages and drivers and not expect to have some issues. Sorry, wish I could help more - but if it was me, I'd build a VM and test a bunch of vLite iso's with each section set back to default, and then try your changes one set at a time (testing after each change) to see what breaks things.

I have vLited the SP1 version without any problem. Can not tell you anymore what options I took out with vLite since I did a clean install with the light version, but I took out a lot. So far no problems at all and the Vista install runs very nice. Only option I took out I shouldn't was the Desktop Search. Because of this Instant Search in Outlook 2007 isn't working (I know, I was told so by vLite...). So if I could get that back in I'm 100% satisfied instead of 99% ;-) I can disable Windows features as it should. No problems so far after a few days running.

C:\Windows\Setup its in there, thats the preset for the currently installed Vista. Also a question, have you used any previous vLite versions, if so did you have the same problem then?

Yes I've been using Vlite for quite some time now.

Once I had similar problem when I was unable to install (or switch On windows feature) IIS, but all other things were installing/removing fine. The problem then was "Windows Help" removal. It was also removing some files which were needed by IIS. Other than that, there were no problems.

But this time problem is somewhere else as nothing is getting installed or removed from it.

Ah...if only I could get your lastSession.inf file...it would've been a great help. Do you still have it with you (look into your Vlite folder for it).

Sorry, don't have it anymore. Installed vLite on my previous installation to create a vLited Vista SP1 disk. With that I did a clean install so the previous installation is gone. I also threw the installation DVD away since by the time I want to do a new install there is most likely a new vLite version out to make an new installation disk with. Sorry I can't be of more help to you.

Lego:

I'll try Vliting it once more with the previous version. Thanks for the suggestion.

roma:

No problem. But once again, if you can just check out your "C:\Windows\Setup" folder, you may find the "LastSession.inf" file there.

razormoon:

Thanks for sharing the file. I can see that you haven't removed any important component from your setup. I did that (well I removed almost everything :P ), and broke the installation. But atleast I'm now confirmed that removing anyone of them won't break my installation. :)
