To anyone who has Server 2008, could you please test iTunes 7.6.1 on your machine? I want to update the wikipedia entry... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITunes_versio...n_compatibility

If you are x64, download the x64 version, if on x86->x86 version. If need be, you may have to edit the MSIs with Orca like here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?m...48&#6349548

Does iTunes still insist on taking over all associations and installing "helper" apps and other junk I strongly dislike? Infesting my Server2008 install with that doesn't sound very pleasant.

Itunes version 7.6.2.9 runs flawless on my server 2008 installation. I can provide screenshots to you if needed. You can contact me via pm.

Yes a default installation does all you mention.

Following the URL in my signature will lead you to a modified installer.
These switchless installers do not require the official quicktime, dont associate any file extensions and dont load the helper app on fresh boot up(s)
