I recently did WinXP SP2 nLited install (my second one after using 2 years old nLited one :)), now after 1 month of using it I am in need to get some pictures from my camera (Canon A610).

After plugging in camera, I got asked for driver search, I did it and no results found. Weird huh. After I closed windows, I went to My Computer and wanted to open camera from there, but it wasn't there.

I started to look for drivers, and found some specific Canon A610 drivers, tried to install them, but Setup finished after getting error message something like "Windows XP TWAIN not found", later after some digging I found some old Canon WIA installed it, after plugging in camera I got asked to install drivers, and somehow I managed that with pointing out .dll file locations (from extracted driver folders and hell knows where, basicly I have no idea what I did install and from where, but I installed something, thats for sure :)).

Now as result when plugging in camera I have "Canon Camera #2" entry in Scanners&Cameras folder in Control Panel and Imaging device in Hardware manager. But still no camera in My Computer.

As I did that all 2 days ago, all install sequences may be wrong cause my memory is short :) But the fact that I did install a lot of things and nothing helped is there :(

So my questions are:

1) How to get my camera working on current install?

2) What not to remove during nLite setup to avoid such problems? (I am quite sure I left all camera related thingies that I know of)

3) If there is no answer to 1), then how could I accquire pictures from camera in some other way? For example doing Linux Live CD boot, and copying photos to USB stick, or running virtual machine XP install, or something like that?

Thanks for many reply's! :P

i'm having this exact same problem with my cannon powershot A70. i tried to make sure devices like this would work with my Nlite install, but windows searches for a driver when i plug the camera in and can't find anything for it.

i'm almost at the point of reinstalling, but i'm afraid the same problem will happen

If your Canon camera is not designed to use a WIA or TWAIN driver, so if your Canon setup CD does not provide such a driver, then you must not remove the camera drivers from your nLited setup. Windows will be able to detect your camera without external driver. Which does not mean that you won't be able to use CameraWindow and ZoomBrowser, they will work perfectly.

Exact, my girlfriend have a canon rebel xti, and we had the same problem.
The cause was that I had remove scanner and cameras with nlite.

i'm positive i didn't remove my camera drivers, i remember selecting it on the tab that lets you 'retain' certain services, plus i was careful not to remove anything usb device related. i still have the folder from the last nlite slipstream, i'll see if i can pull it up and make sure i didn't actually remove the appropriate drivers on accident...

It would be easier to find solution if you post your LastSeason.ini.

Cheers ;)

You have removed the standard camera drivers provided by Windows. 'Cameras and Camcorders' is listed under Components/Drivers. Just don't remove it and it will work. Canon cameras not using WIA or Twain (like the G9) need these standard drivers.

You have to recreate your intall disk not removing the drivers and reinstall everything.

I have found this, but i was not able to make it work myself. Maybe i am doing something wrong, if anyone wants to check it, take a look:

If, like me, you stripped your WinXP install to the bones using nLite, then sometimes you remove the Camera driver software (even though I told nLite to leave it in there).

All the files are on your WinXP SP2 CD and are easily extracted. Using somethings that opens CAB files (I use 7zip), find your \I386 directory on your CD.

Open SP2.CAB and extract these files:-
iyuv_32.dll
ks.sys
ksproxy.ax
kstvtune.ax
ksuser.dll
kswdmcap.ax
ksxbar.ax
msh263.drv
msyuv.dll
usbvideo.sys
vfwwdm32.dll
vidcap.ax

Open DRIVERS.CAB and extract this file:-
tsbyuv.dll

There is one file I could not find on CD but instead I grabbed it from the \WINDOWS\INF directory on another XP SP2 laptop I owned:-
usbvideo.inf

Go to your device manager and install the driver. Navigate to where you have these files stored and you shold be go to go.

SOLUTION FOUND!!

I used the original installation of WinXP on another PC and checked to see, what files were missing from the nlited WinXP.

They are:
C:\WINDOWS\inf
sonypvu1.inf
 sonypvu1.pnf

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers
sonypvu1.sys

You can transfer the files from an original WinXp installation to a nlited WinXP installation without format/reinstalling!

THANK you for your time and effort JOHN!!
