dc++ all the way
emule is slow but have a lot of new files...
kazaa used to use it after finding out about dc++ and some other p2p programs never used it. a lot of junk stuff.....
actually I've most of them installed, I used them whenever there's usefull stuff on any of them..
I'm not dling a lot of stuff everyday.

only bad thing about dc is file share limit. I can't put my files to dvd's bc of this.!

hm just dled shareaza
many ppl told me it was bad I think they're wrong Thanks FthrJACK
it connects to 3 networks and pretty fast going at 200+ kb/s

@XtremeMaC - I see you haven't noted my question asking about dc++

Quote

what's all this talk about DC++ ? Is it like BT ?
I suppose you can download the win32 client from their project's home page at sourceforge.
BTW, does it have a large enough community of users for me to use it (i'd say 40,000 nodes would be good)

>> file share limit on dc++ : could you explain it please ?

@prathapml I sure didn't see it sorry :)
its not like bit torrent or kazaa or edonkey.
u could say its like emule, bc u need to connect to a server(hubs)
in dc/dc++ there is a huge hublist. according to their title's and needs u connect to 1 or more than 1 of them.
there are certain rules each hub holds.
say u're in Hub #1 and the rules are like this
share limit: 10gb
max upload ports: 5
min connection speed: dsl

and so on. u cannot really fake these since they're scripted...

file share limit: this is different than any of the other p2p programs. u actually need to share a huge amount of data so that u're accepted to the big hubs. the more file u share the better hubs u might get in. (logic works like this, its easier to find what u're looking for with more ppl with more files)

hubs: you can connect to as many hubs you want. some of the hubs have a certain rule saying "if u connect to my hub, u cannot be connected to any other".
the purpose of connecting to more than 1 hub is to be able to search and dl from many other ppl. say a hub#1 contaings 1300 ppl and hub#2 1700 u'd be searching from 3000ppl.
there is also another catch to it. if u're connected to hub#1(they want 3 upload slots) and you're connecting to hub#2 (also want 3 upload slots). u have to set u're upload slots to 6 in order to get into them together.

but I usually connect to just 1. since I share about 60gb which is kindda enough to connect to any of the hubs.

hubs have a limit, some of them have 1500 whereas some have 300 which less requirements.
dcplusplus.sourceforge.net will get u started. they also have a forum where u can ask questions. though its not organized very well in my opinion.

in few words. in most of the other p2p clients u connect to a network. which is a bigger network. in dc++ u connect to smaller hubs but u get what u need. and since its direct connect its pretty fast!

hope this helps. I know I tend to confuse ppl with stupid sentences but anyways, if u need anything else I'm always here (or even if not I'll be on msn/icq/msn mobile/not really on aim etc...

wow !!!!!!
I'm left speechless. you've compressed lots of info into a pretty small post.
thanks. I'm going to join the dc++ network also now - seems good 'coz lots of ppl r talking about it and you've given me such a lot of info about it.

BTW, I don't have shareaza installed (to see the exact configuration option) at the comp from where i'm posting this,
but yes, there's a setting to limit your upload bandwidth.
In fact, you have infinite control over things in shareaza.
And, I have experienced that **** thing too - it starts to look like everybody in the known universe is sucking my shared files. At one time, I had statistics like 24 kBps up and 0.3 kBps down. It's sick, but when it's good, it's heavenly, and it has access to the largest number of people.

Nah !!!
The speed is the same.
In fact, if you have more files shared, unless you configured the upload limit, you'll probably upload using 80% of your bandwidth, and download at 15%.

And question2 - no, you keep finding lakhs of free-loaders on shareaza too.

I had tried it before
its kind of slow!
and some hubs don't let u use it.
also even if u find an entry in a hub. say want 40gb of share
u first have to connect to that hub and be accepted to it.
well anyways its good to have a search engine though..!!
