So, I just got through wiping vista off of my computer and replacing it with xp.
Everything is running good, but the sound card drivers will not install.

I have no clue about what model the card is, UnknownDriver.exe tells me it's by Sigmatel.
Upon attempting to install the sigmatel drivers (Which I'm guessing are universal) I get the error message:
"Device Object not present, restart the system and run setup again."

Well of course restarting the system and running setup again doesn't help at all.

The PC is a gateway gt5628.
If any diagnostics info is needed then just ask and I'll get it.

And yes I'm expecting plenty of "Search Button" type posts. I did search and every solution did not work on my pc specifically.

EDIT: The driver from the gateway page for my pc lists only a driver compatible with windows vista.
D20163-001-001.exe

Have you tried this one ?
Desktop Computers (All Models) > Gateway GT5628 > Windows XP > Sound Downloads

SigmaTel4487.exe - SigmaTel Audio Driver Version: 5.10.4487
Supports: Windows XP
Note: This is the SigmaTel audio driver for the Gateway Big Lake motherboard.

1001 posts... what a waste of time ! :D

Hi ParkerM! I have the same computer as yours and trying to downgrade it to XP Pro but having no luck. I tried Slipstreaming my XP CD with the drivers, changed the BIOS to IDE and still get blue screen. I'm just wondering how did you get XP to install with your unit? Thanks!

Ponch: That's the one that gave me the error message.

The motherboard is an Intel (Schroeder Town) G33. http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Inte...006194Rmv.shtml

Says something about Sigmatel / IDT-STAC9271 10-channel audio codec. Can't find anything about it though.

D-Fox: http://driverpacks.net

Get the cpu, chipset, and massStorage driver packs and use base to install them onto your xp cd.

EDIT: Found this link: http://www.intel.com...CS-009244.htm#1

I can't find the drivers past that page though.

Thanks ParkerM. Been there before but they don't have anything for 64bit as as I'm trying to install XP64. I guess I'll settle for the 32bit version for now and see how it goes then upgrade to 64bit later if possible. The main thing right now for me is to be able to install XP. Thanks again.

Finally got it up and running.

If anyone needs the file name, it's 5.10.5258_MSXP_W_STACGUI_AC97FP.exe

I'll let you find it yourself.

No need to pay anyone, or for a CD to have a driver. A quick google search for the actual filename turns up this or this or ...
