So after been using Vista for almost 6 months, I still find it annoying that I always see the "search bar" found in the "start menu" and cannot seem to remove it. And that in fact that I cannot shrink the size of the "menu bar" itself: I was wondering if this was some M$ bug or perhaps an offside effect cuz of vLite (which I doubt)

I know that you could adjust this in XP, were you could make it drop down to being able to "not showing" any programs all. I assume that this is an intended bug, due to the fact that we have the option to switch the "placeholders" for programs (so if you could adjust this to zero, the 2nd placeholder would look awkward as you can imagine). So I was wondering if there existed some reg tweak which could bypass this and perhaps make it look like the good ol' XP layout?

But then again, we have the option to change the default prog view but cannot seem to be able to adjust it... I wonder why?

My second question would be if there's any way to use custom visual styles/themes/skins for Vista? I've seen some and tried to use em with tools such as VistaGlazz or TuneUp Utilities, first of all I never saw anything mentioning not being usable on x64, but I ended up with a corrupt uxtheme whatever file which led me to some critical moments that I wish I could regret. Anyways, I'm asking the experts if there's any way to patch vista in some way without using WBlinds so that custom visual styles/ would usable?
I figured out this part on my own after some deep google (inc some forums) searching, and my problem was cuz i had SP1.

Oh and this isn't cuz of any RAM issues or anything like that. I just wanna be able to customize the start menu a little bit.
