Ok. This is a great site but the 5 letter minimum on search is really annoying. For instance I was looking for a thread I saw previously on xp aspi. ASPI. Four letters no go.

Really should be 3 letters minimum.

I agree... A lot of MS things are 3 letters. SUS, SMS, RIS... many others.

yeah 5 is a bit crazy, i'm not sure what search system they are using here but..

if they are using full text search then the minimum is 4, but it's a LOT better than standard search, especially for server load etc

otherwise they can use smaller minimum words (like 3), but that might slow the forum down a bit..

Already fixed this morning. Minimum is 4 and full text searching mode enabled.

You can do searches like this:

+ms +sus for letters under 4. :)

Only thing to note now is that with full text searching in MySQL i think the default is for OR searches

ie if you type in John Smith it will search for John OR Smith..

I think its possible to change in mysql config though
