Is there a registry setting that will change the Turn Off Monitor setting under Power Schemes from the default setting 20 min to Never? I would like to import a reg file that automatically changes this.

Thanks.

ljones2: Yes... but the keys that controls it holds information about other options as well. I can send you a key that will change it for you, but it will also change what happens when you press your power button to "Ask me what to do"

That has been tested well over 20 times. I can't tell you how long I worked on that key before I finally got it right!

glad I could help... I have a LOT of useful registry tweaks that I have not seen anywhere else. Give me a couple days I I will post them all. I have been working on a company wide XP rollout so I haven't had much time. Many of these I have found because my company wanted them to be part of our standard image. I even have a technique to make custom changes to visual performance effects. Disabling Active desktop and the ability to set a background or use HTML on your background, cleartype fonts, taskbar grouping, recyclebin size, allowing Remote Assistance and Offer Remote Assistance, cascading My Documents... I have a huge list.

Later!

along the same lines... since you are going to have your monitor on all the time, you might want to adjust your screensaver times too...

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"ScreenSaveTimeOut"="900"

Just change the "900" to any number you wish... that's seconds BTW... 900=15 mins.

Thanks for the work that went into that regfix. My need is actually the oposite of this though. I need to import a fix that will change the setting from Never to 30 min. What do I need to edit in the posted code to make this happen?

On XP and others, just go to cmd prompt and type powercfg to see if it runs on your OS

Save the following as power.cmd and run it. You can change these to timeouts you want by changing
-monitor-timeout-ac 0 to -monitor-timeout-ac 30 is 30 minutes. 0 sets it to never

powercfg -change "Always On" -monitor-timeout-ac 0
powercfg -change "Always On" -disk-timeout-ac 0
powercfg -change "Always On" -standby-timeout-ac 0
powercfg -change "Always On" -hibernate-timeout-ac 0
powercfg -hibernate off
powercfg -setactive "Always On"

EDit: changed to a simple cmd script
