We currently have a NT4 PDC with no BDC in a small network. We just bought a new dell server with 2k3 server preinstalled. I would like to make this machine the domain controller and get rid of the nt4 server. I have some books on this but they all talk about upgrading a single machine from nt4 to 2k3. Basically I need to find out how to get the new server to join the domain and get all the user account info. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Well... you don't have the new server join the domain.. you make the new server the domain. With 2003 you now have Active directory. If you have only one PDC and you are wanting it to go away, and you have no other DCs then making the PDC go away makes your domain go away, right? How big of a company are we talking about?

There is a patch that has to be installed on the Windows 2003 member server for a Windows 2003 Server to join a NT4 domain. I believe it is found in Technet. Search under 2003 server to NT4 domain. Let me know if this helps
