bessler72
Hi to all here!I`m from Sweden and English is not my native language but I really need help from someone and I`ll try to put it as simple as possible. For some reasons I still have an old PC from 1998 and I am going to keep it because I don`t need much from a computer...not more than simple internet functions (mail, simple surfing), writings, printings and dealings with other simple documents as photos and even (rarely) audio clips.Actually everything works perfectly but one thing.....USB stick. I realise that using those floppy discs is limiting. They just don`t have enough space. Now, my computer has 2 USB inputs on the back for scanner or something else. I use Windows 98. When I insert a USB stick the computer doesn`t recognise it. I understand that I need some driver or program so that I can use USB sticks. Please can anybody help me and teach me what to do? I`m not that good with computers but if there is some reliable download source or link, I would be glad to download the program/driver so that, when it`s done, I can insert the stick, click on "My computer" and then click on "ext. hard disc" to open the data inside the stick. Quite simple that`s all I need!I really hope there is a simple solution. Thanks in advance & regards,//nino

dencorso
jaclaz pointed you to the right places...But, before you go there, look here: www.technical-assistance.co.uk may be just what you need, if you just want to get the driver. Observe that there are two different drivers, one to be used in Windows 98 and the other for Windows 98SE. HTH

bessler72
Thank you guys...thanx a lot for the links. I managed to download and install the driver. Sadly I am still not able to reach the stuff in my USB stick. I insert it, open "my computer" but cannot find any external hard disc or anything like it to click on, and "get into" the stick.I don`t know what to do, maybe I am not supposed to go to "my computer", maybe there is another way to reach the stick. If anybody has any ideas.....Anyway once again thank you all for help!Cheers,//nino
jaclaz
It may also be some problem with your local "Swedish" version of 98 not mixing well with the English pack.Did you try BOTH drivers or just the Maximum Decim one (it should be the "better" one, but also the one "less compatible" with non-English OS).The other one should be more "generic".And it is also possible that, as reported in the thread:http://www.msfn.org/board/Generic-98-USB-d...cks-t99220.htmlyou have some other problem, like "wrong" version of DCOM or OLEAUT.jaclaz Edited May 13, 2008 by jaclaz
bessler72
Thanx Jaclaz !!I`ll see what I can do. Soon one good friend of mine will come to my place and see if he can do something with this driver. He`s got very good skills when it comes to computers. We`ll see.Cheers,//nino
