Longtime user of nLite, but just started trying to use it on a SP3 install. I've tried several different iterations of the disc, but I can only install Windows so many times. After removing the usual stuff, stuff I've removed many times before, Remote Desktop no longer works. The client is on there, I can remote out, but not in. I can go to another computer and use the client and put in the ip, and nothing happens, doesn't prompt for a username or anything. After I click connect, the client just kind of resets itself. To make sure it was nLite, I burned the original XP Pro VLK SP3 iso and installed that, worked fine. I also tried nLite with just a few things removed, and it worked. I tried a few different combos to see if I could isolate it with no luck. Again, it takes too much to keep reinstalling and reinstalling. I'm hoping someone here can help me isolate the problem. And before you ask, yes I did check the box to keep remote desktop capability. Heres the last session ini:
PS, I know I have a handful of services set to be disabled after installed, as you can see below. That is an obvious candidate for the problem, but its not. I got the same error on installations where I didn't set any services to disabled on install like here. This was like my 7th try so I figured what the hell.

Broken Terminal Services nLite 1.4.5F + XP Pro VLK SP3

I've never really used the MS remote desktop, always kept to vnc, better freeware alternatives. Have you tried with no tcp ip patch? Also maybe you need to keep Administrative shares enabled, at least that makes sense in my head, at least if you are going to be server, as in the receiving end.

Remote desktop works best for me for a myriad of reasons, one of which is that every XP+ computer I use already has the client. I appreciate the suggestion but that's really not a solution. I have set the TCIP IP patch to 100 in every test case, including the one where RDesktop worked without incident, so it's not that. Also, I didn't disable administrative shares, I'm not sure where you got that....

Check your services.
I have also been trying to use a Corporate VLK SP2 disk slipstreamed to SP3. I mainly use the RVM integrator, but I used nLite to add a SATA driver and then removed many of the keyboard profiles like in your list. My installation is totally hosed, with missing shortcuts, no IE7 or WMP11...
I checked my services and noticed that many services that were set to Automatic were not started. Here are some of the services issues I have.
set to automatic but are not started
Computer Browser
Cryptographic Services
DCOM Server Process Launcher
DHCP Client
Distributed Link Tracking Client
DNS Client
Error Reporting Service
Event Log
IPSEC Services
Logical Disk Manager
NVIDIA Display Driver Service
Print Spooler
Protected Storage
Secondary Logon
Security Accounts Manager
Security Center
Shell Hardware Detection
System Event Notification
TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
Themes
WebClient
Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)
Windows Management Instrumentation
Windows Time
The Following are disabled
Alerter
ClipBook
Human Interface Device Access
IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service
Indexing Service
Network DDE
Network DDE DSDM
Remote Registry
Routing and Remote Access
Telnet
Some of the automatics will start quickly like DHCP which I then can get an IP address, others take forever and then error out stating they can't be started. If I log out and log back, some of the serviceces that would not start are now started, but if I reboot they are not started again.
I'm about to give up on SP3 and just go back to SP2.

Unfortunately, this guy is trying to access RDP via the activex and couldn't get it to run. I'm using the RD Client. I'm still having this issue. My issues are not as bad as the previous poster, as this is my only issue. Perhaps you have an improperly slipstreamed image? Mine came directly from MSDN so I don't think thats the case with me. Any other ideas?

At this point, reading over your initial post twice, i dont see a obvious culprit. I would go paranoid here and double check that remote desktop is in fact not been disabled instead of enabled. This kind of scenario just plainly reminds me of that what i have configured, is not being implemented correctly at some stage in the process of making the nlited image. I would also check group policy editor, local and what not.
Eventsystem and SENS disabled is just asking for trouble btw.
