Is there any way to do a diff on two WIMs? I have two that are slightly different, but I don't know where the difference is. Is there a tool to compare the two, similar to file comparison tools used for programming?

Mount both WIMs to different folders, then use something like Windiff to compare the folders. There are several free tools you can download.

Dummy me never thought of that!
in other news: I figured out the differences on my own but perhaps this post will be useful to someone else.
