Somehow I deleted the Recycle bin from the desktop,

2 questions :

1)Any ideas how it could be restored?

2)Usually when an item is deleted it's stored in the bin until it's emptied. Now that that I don't see it, are items still stored or are they removed right away. If they are removed then I don't need to restore it, Otherwise

Please Help

Thanks

1. Right click on the Desktop. In the window
that comes up left-click once on Properties.

2. In the Display Properties windows click on
the Desktop tab. Then click on the Customize
Desktop button at the bottom of the window.

3. Put checkmarks in the boxes in front of all of
the Desktop Icons and then click Ok.

4. Try: Restore default also.

Note: This is for Windows XP, but should work on all
Windows OS.

Right click on Desktop gives Display Propeties

I only have : Effects, and under this, transition effects/smooth edges/show icons using...../show windows while dragging/hide keyboard.....

Those are the only options, the rest are screensaver/appearance/web/settings - no restore in sight

Can you please please help?

Thanks

Are you looking on the Desktop tab as xper explained? There should be a customize desktop button.

... sometimes, the most obvious and easiest solutions are the hardest to find. Open Explorer and go to C drive. Find Recycle Bin in the file and folder list. Right Click on it and then select Send To Desktop (Create Shortcut).

That should do it......

Tried and failed, there is no such thing in the WHOLE drive
except a lost icon that windows plus installs as part of themes.

Windows does not contain any exe files or links or dll's

Got you all stumped!

Hey let's all say Thanks Bill for making an impossible task out of nothing

Try getting TweakUI - it has an option for renaming and deleting the recycle bin. Maybe it will let you put it back.

OR

Try using regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}ShellFolder

If the key exists, then the recycle bin is still there. Double click on Attributes in the right pane and enter the following value:
70010020

Good luck...
