Hi good utility but I keep getting an error when trying to add WinXP with SP3 slipstreamed

I seem to be able to add XP3 with SP2, but tried different sources with SP3 it just doesnt like it..

I get the "AutoIT Error"
Line 28587 (File "c:\users\admin\desktop\WinSetupFromUSB_1-0-beta8_x64.exe"):
Error Subscript used with non-Array variable

Im using Win7 x64 with the x64 version utility, copying to a 1TB HDD..

log file attached seems like when it tries to copy the files it throws the error

Any advice appreciated,

Is this the full log file, unmodified?

Yes it is, its a fresh log file containing one attempt at copying XP to HDD

nothing changed or edited

The error is thrown, straight after pressing "accept" on the XP EULA

Please run in command prompt:

dir /b /s h: > c:\winsource.txt
and attach c:\winsource.txt with your next reply. Assuming Windows source is still in H:.

Interesting...

Can you check if there is any empty subfolder of H: and delete it?
There is something which breaks the function which makes the list of files and folders to be copied. Program does not distinguish between SP2, SP3 and so on, SP level is obtained and used only to make the relevant folders and boot menu name.

Thank you for the help - After I found no blank folders, I compared the SP2 ISO with SP3 and saw there was AMD64 folder.

I created AM64 folder in root and placed the file "TXTSETUP.SIF" inside, it then stopped the error message.

Is this where the program looks to create the boot menu name? because this is x86 XP which has TXTSETUP.SIF inside \i386\

also will this mess up the XP install later on?

When I removed the AMD64 folder and tested, error was back o_o

I am getting similar error now copying UBCD4Win :}

However the AutoIT error Line is 28748, I copied the AMD64 folder to it, but did not fix this time..

The log does not show any issues, ends with:

2012/07/18 00:13:16- grub4dos installed
2012/07/18 00:13:16- Preparing PE source

...any ideas?

Download and extract the file attached and place it next to the original program files. Run it and test with Windows XP source, not PE, and post the resulting log file.

Do you have rights to write to the user's temp folder, typically C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Temp? Is it moved or restricted in any way? Is C: drive or wherever Windows is full or nearly full?

And yes, adding AMD64 folder would mess things up, source will be assumed to be x64 making the relevant changes.
Why does your XP SP2 source have AMD64 folder?

Hi ilko_t

- C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\Temp is present and accessiable (logged in as Admin)
- C: contains windows and has 13Gb free space
- SP2 is winXP 64bit, SP3 is 32bit hence the amd64

I have run WinSetupFromUSB_1-0-beta8_testINS.exe from multiple paths same error, e.g c:\ , desktop, within the source dir,

log file for this is attached

thanks

Right now program fails to find DPMS folder in C:\

Lets make a clean start :
1) Stop temporarily any antivirus programs running
2) Download a fresh copy of beta8:
http://winsetupfromu...up_1_0_beta8.7z
3) Extract the archive in c:\WinSetup. Use 7-zip for the purpose, some other programs do not handle properly 7z archives. The executable files WinSetupFromUSB_1-0-beta8.exe and WinSetupFromUSB_1-0-beta8_x64.exe should end up in c:\WinSetup\ directory.
4) Extract the test version in c:\WinSetup\ too and run it.
5) Try with XP SP3 source and post the log file produced.

By the way- program searches for its files in paths, relative to the executable file location, hence you can't run the exe file, say from desktop, while the FILES directory is elsewhere. In addition, if DPMS folder is missing and XP/2000/2003 source is being transferred, and "do not use DPMS" option is not selected , program would error out the same way.

ilko_t - Thank you its working.

After following your steps, i found i had missed one vital folder when unzipping first time "Files" !! I must be blind I did not see it.

This was my first time working with this utility, sorry this was a waste of your time, it was my fault all along

Hello

I'm having a problem installing XP on an Acer Aspire 3810T laptop.

Booting the laptop from a USB keydrive with WinSetupFromUSB works fine, but no matter what I try, it won't see the SATA drive.

I tried WSFU's "Autodetect and use F6", or copying Acer's AHCI driver onto a second USB keydrive and hitting the F6 key in XP's installer, to no avail:

Quote

Setup could not determine the type of one or more mass storage devices installed in your system.

Hit "S":

Quote

Setup could not find a floppy drive on your machine to load OEM drivers

Also tried changing the SATA drive in the BIOS from AHCI to IDE, nogo.

Could I somehow copy the AHCI driver onto the WSFU keydrive?

Thank you.

Try integrating BTS mass storage driver pack in your source and redo the USB disk:
http://www.msfn.org/...ost__p__1002904

By the way- Setup should see the hard disk in IDE/ATA mode, is the source modified in some way, drivers removed?

Thanks for the info.

I did try changing the BIOS from AHCI to IDE before asking for help, but it didn't work. But this time, it did. It might have to do with the fact that I booted a Linux USB keydrive to reduce the size of the first partition to something smaller, but I'm not positive.

Although XP won't boot if I set the BIOS back to AHCI, I can live with that.

Thanks for the help. WSFU is a very useful tool.

Edit : Not a good idea, as this is a test host and images I did previously in AHCI mode with Clonezilla won't start (at least Windows7 won' t start.

Looks like I'll have to learn how to add the SATA driver in the XP ISO.

What do you mean by "cannot get it to work"?

Windows XP SP3, preconfigured wIth nLite and DriverPacks:

I got this error message window when Part 2 setup began (GUI mode), just before extracting the DriverPacks.

Quote

Windows : No disk

Clicking the "Cancel" button for 3 times, it went on OK.

The message appeared again during the RunOnceEx phase for 2 times. It continued to run after clicking Cancel button. And the resulting Windows OS was OK.

Actually , I did the Windows setup 2 times, the error message problem were exactly the same.
