KernelEx App Compatibility Database

Recommended Posts

Oh, thanks for mentioning, made me just realize there's a newer version, and of course grabbed it right away :-)

The mentioned version 104 is actually for the "later" systems!

Seems to work fine for me too, and without kernelex gives a runtime-error and crashes ;-P

Media Player Classic

The current 9X-etc-version (6.4.9.1, date oct. 2008) says "revision 82" in the about-function.

The xp-etc-version (still 6.4.9.1, but funnily from July 2009!!) declares itself "revision 104" and "unicode build".

PIXELFORMER !

A tiny graphics proggie with LAYERS and transparency, that starts up on my ancient win98se in 1 sec.!!

Incredible... and keeps running fast and smoothly, needs very little memory (limit user defined). Sort of Gimp VERY Light ;-) It can import Photoshop-Pics with Layers, so I tried to import a Gimp-Layer-Pic which I first had exported to .psd, and it really works, whoa...

The homepage says minimum win2000, and with k-ex disabled it doesn't even start, gets immediately stuck in the background somewhere. Must say I didnt try the installer, just unzip the setup.exe by 7z, and it runs perfectly. Thanks to Disrupted from the kmeleon forum for the tip!

Firefox 3.5 no go or is it just me ?

I've got FF 3.0.14 working (almost) perfectly here. Will 3.5.x still run in 98 SE with KernelEx ?

I tried the Firefox Portable 3.5.3 - works as designed in Win 2k (this is a mutliboot system), but shuts itself down immediately in Windows 98. I don't know yet if it's the portable launcher or Firefox itself, in any case no joy!

[edit: SOLVED!] Aplogies and kudos to Xeno & all KernelEx contributors! I had an older KernelEx (v 3.5).

After updating to the last KernelEx version 4.0-2, FF 3.5 does work with KernelEx indeed :=)

Keeping the portable 3.5 in parallel with FF 3.0 for some time in order to check stability, then I'll update the main FF to 3.5.

Awsome work, Guys !

-> Apps from Win XP:

* MSPAINT.exe is working, but you have to had 'mfc42u.dll' (from C:\WINDOWS\system32) in the same folder or in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM

* CALC.exe is working

* OSK.exe is NOT working

* WORDPAD.exe is NOT working

* CHARMAP.exe is working, but you have to had 'getuname.dll' (from C:\WINDOWS\system32) in the same folder or in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM

-> Last VLC 1.03 is working fine (but not skins)

This is a fantastic work! :thumbup Win98SE is obviously much more stable. :thumbup

Hi,

Adobe Shockwave player work on W98SE without KernelEX

Windows 98/2000/XP

http://www.adobe.com/fr/shockwave/download/alternates/

I have install it several month ago (before I install KernelEX)

But there is a hardware restriction :

http://www.adobe.com/fr/products/shockwave...nfo/systemreqs/

and I uninstall it because I only have a PIII and it freeze

Now I think it is no need for me with what I do on this pc ;)

Does anyone know what is the last version of the Adobe Shockwave Player running under Win98 Se with KernelEX 4?

I am currently using version 10.2.0.23.

All the new serie 11 is not working I think with the native Win98SE.

I've tried - it was possible to install it but it doesn't work on test page (version for alternate browsers).

Because of that, I'm using the same version as you.

Btw, here you have a small thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/shockwave-player-t139333.html

Media Player Classic

The current 9X-etc-version (6.4.9.1, date oct. 2008) says "revision 82" in the about-function.

The xp-etc-version (still 6.4.9.1, but funnily from July 2009!!) declares itself "revision 104" and "unicode build".

Unfortunately Gabest and his followers (Gabest v2) discontinued development of MPC (ANSI) for 9x OSes in October 2008. :(

Newest MPC (Unicode) newest build (106) is installed only by K-Lite Codecs (Unicode) for NTx OSes [2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/7]:

http://www.codecguide.com/about_kl.htm

Older MPC (ANSI + Unicode) builds are available at the Gabest v2 SF site:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/guliverkli2/

More links here:

http://www.mdgx.com/toy.htm#MED

Careful here...

MPC Unicode (any build) may not be compatible with all 9x OSes functions, even if KernelEx allows it to run without error messages.

And do not try MPC-HC (Unicode only) with 9x OSes:

http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/

Won't work. :(

Same here: newest MPC-HC build (1.3.3.3) is installed only by K-Lite Codecs (Unicode):

http://www.codecguide.com/about_kl.htm

User has choice which MPC edition to use during KLC install.

IMO:

MPC-HC (1.3.3.3) is still buggy, "normal" MPC (106) is better.

HTH
