I use Windows Media Player 10.

I also have used Winamp since v2. When 3 came out I didn't like it, took too much ram. So I never used it again.

Winamp 2 rocked, Winamp 3 sucked and Winamp 5 is back there rocking at the top!!

With the Tara plugin it'll play those quicktime and real media vids too and I found the cleanest skin ever. It's called Classix, It's a modern skin but all the buttons and text are highly readable without being bulky. Plus it comes with loads of different colors. The slate color match perfectly with my Codename: Opus Alpha XP visual style :)

The only problem I'm having at the moment is getting Launch.com videos to play. I don't think I can do it Winamp so I've been trying VideoLan and Media Player Classic but I keep getting a save this file prompt from firefox when it trys to open the medialog.asp file that comes from launch. Ah well a minor problem.

I'd just like to add that this set of 'lite' codecs really help when wanting to play everything in one player. E.g. no RealPlayer, Quicktime or Media Player.

CodecsLite

I use 1By1. It's mainly for MP3s only but with downloadable plugins you can play WAVs and other formats. Takes up barely over 1 MB of memory while playing music. It's less than 100 KBs and is a standalone. I love it. Winamp is compelling because of the interface design and online radio, but I resist temptations... ;)

I mainly use WMP 10 - cause it is there, call me lame, but with all the crap I already have to install - iam usually to lazy to install something else right away. WinAMP is really good and I like v5+ to play my music files with.

I use Divx Pro for downloaded Movies

And use PowerDVD Deluxe v6.0+ for DVD movies!!! :thumbup

I use Winamp for music, and Windows Media Player for videos. But I voted for Winamp anyway.

Free, Small, Fast, Light, Portable, Minimalistic, Very high audio quality, Supports all formats (Particularly all variants of AAC. Most of my music is in various AAC formats. WinAMP still doesn't fully support He-AACv2), Kernel Bitstreaming, Dithering, and most importantly for me - it can run completly in the background with almost every function having a global hotkey. :)

I use Winamp for audio songs. For music videos, I use Media Player since it seems to handle the codecs better. I used to use an old version of iTunes to copy random songs to an MP3 Player, but that broke so I haven't used it since.

WMP works for me! :thumbup
As for the original iPod/school discussion: are you guys still in the same school? Even IN school anymore? Just wondering. ;)
You should get iPod linux! I'm not a huge linux fan (OK for servers, I guess, but I don't love it on the desktop) but it sure beats the default mac crap. There's a reason they call it crapple, you know. :P I actually don't have an iPod...
