Caelen
I just did a vlite install of vista64 sp1. everything went great, after installing apps etc i had about a 3.5 gig vista installation.I then connected to windows update and installed about 100 meg of updates, after a restart my vista install is now over 7gig and the winsxs folder has grown from just over 1 gig to 4.5 gig.Is this right? can it be stopped ? why did it grow so much after just 100 meg of updates ?thanks for any help or info. Sgt.Riggs
Caelen, you can't stop it growing. WinSxS contains all versions of components that have been updated. It is done for better compatibility: if application uses older version of component, it can use it from WinSxS folder. If you remove this folder, you won't be able to use some programs and Windows Update.
Caelen
thanks, it just seems stupid that it nearly triples in size after just 100 meg of updates.
