Is it possible for you to modify the installer to work on Windows XP x64. Usually I take your builds, extract the contents, edit the msi file with Orca so that it doesn't give me the "must install on Vista x64" error message, and run it but it doesn't seem to be working on this latest version. The installer runs, but then fails with no explanation.

@dark79:

I don't have WinXP x64 resources at hand to try.

You can try to log the installation you modified to see if there is something going on that can be modified or tweaked.

I will take a thorough look at the Vista x64 msi to see if i can do something but there is no guarantee.

When I used the switches to create the install log, the installation was successful. So I guess I don't need a modified build. I'll just continue what I normally do. Thanks for the help either way!

hey, i downloaded your iTunes Switchless 8.0.1.11 English.exe and installed it along with your quicktime itunes compability patch. upon trying to run itunes it gives me

Quote

QuickTime version 7.5 installed, iTunes requires QuickTime 7.5.5 or later.

Please reinstall iTunes.

i then tried to reinstall quicktime alternative v2.70. didn't work. then i reinstalled your compability patch. still the same error. then i installed shark's vcp thing. again the above error. i take it itunes v80111 needs a new compability patch, too?

@posix:

I tested x86 installers with QuickTime Alternative and QTA iTunes Add-on. They are working fine.

Try to uninstall QTA and QTA Add-on. Then uninstall iTunes. Reboot and install them in this order. It should work.

hey, i'm sorry, it works now. apparently it just needed a full restart, rather than admin log off/on. thanks a lot for bringing us itunes without quicktime :)
is it in any way possible to make itunes more leight-weight? it's so badly programmed that even clicking menus has huge delay because of who knows what it's doing. it just doesn't feel dynamic at all. is there any way to make it operate faster?

I don't think we can make "faster". That's the way it is coded.

I have created an install for itunes that does not install the Apple Mobile Device, Mobile Me, Apple Software Update, Quicktime and Bonjour. I will advise installing any version of quicktime you feel like using prior to installing itunes.

- extract the msi from the itunes installer
- open the itunes MSI in orca
- simply delete the 4 entries I have hightlighted under orca, hope it helps :)

ohh and thanks for the thread for the idea to remove the calls to install the packages :)

screenie attachted with highlighted entries

edit: had to upload it to rapidshare for a friend, anyway here is the linky for anyone who wants it.

I've installed the one made by elajua and iTunes works fine, but there is no support for my iPhone.
iTunes starts with the message
"This iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, then install iTunes again"

I don't want to install bloatware iTunes :(
Can I just extract the Apple Mobile Device MSI from the iTunes downloaded from Apple's site and install it?

Yes, you can do that. It will install the stupid "Mobile Me" stuff though.

I don't have an iPhone to test. But you can try installing Mobile Device just as RHPT said to see if it works. Please post your results.

Hi !
Does anyone know if it's possible to get QuickTime 7.5 work on Windows XP Pro x64 SP1 ?
I need it to run iTunes 8, to use an iPhone ...
And I read somewhere that QuickTime, since 7.4, is not compatible with Windows SP1 (whatever version). The thing is I can install it, but can't run it ...
And it's the same with QTA or QTL ...
The thing is I can't install SP2 cause it makes everything crash !...
Please help me !
Thanks !

I already build my installers.

I'm just waiting for the server to come online to upload and publish them.
