Prevent DNS server from updating A names

When I ping "bklounge" it resolves to my public address. When I check the DNS forwarding zone, the A name for bklounge is my public address, every time I change this, and other entries that have the public address, it changes back when the service restarts or within minutes. Is there a way to force it to keep the local IP i specify?
