I need to monitor a USB port so that I can find out the types of device plugged in (make and model if possible) and the data that is passed to, and from, the port. This needs to be be hidden from the user and run as a service in XP pro (not because I am using it for illegal means - quite the opposite - its to track a suspected theif (which is legal in the UK)).

It needs to be freeware or failing that then the best known commercial solution. thanks in advance for any help.
I hope someone can help
By the way I have looked on Google but the only ones I can see are really bloated apps with no stealth capability and more suited to diagnostics than investigating user activities
thanks

Hmm you might be able to use SrvAny with USB Snoopy, USBlyzer, or USBTrace.
