I don't know what this feature is called exactly or I could maybe figure out what I removed / disabled that I didn't want to.

Normally with a full windows install I can begin typing the name of a file I want to open in the open dialog and windows will bring up the rest of the file name in the open file field so that I don't' have to type the entire file name out. It no longer does this. I have turned on autocomplete to see if it was linked, but no avail. Or, for example in any program, like Autocad, if I ctrl-O and get the the open dialog and begin typing in the name of the file I want to open, it won't auto-select / complete what I am typing.

Also in Solidworks when I tab through selections, it does not highlight where I am tabbing to. It does move there invisibly, and I could input something into the next box, but the box does not highlight and show me where I am.

Any idea what I removed / disabled that I didn't want to? :}

I realize I used examples of cad applications, but it could be any application. MSPaint, trying to open a .jpg

Help appreciated, I have looked and looked and looked.

adiabolist,
Not even a wild guess. How about attaching (not pasting) your LastSession.ini?
Enjoy, John.

It could be something "internet explorer" related.

Check Registry entries as detailed here:

You can also try this:

as a workaround.

Thanks jaclaz.

I integrated IE 7.0 into the installation, and it appears it defaulted to an unchecked "use inline autocomplete" option.

I found the solution in the link you pasted.

Click Start, Run and type INETCPL.CPL
Click the Advanced tab.
Under Browsing, click the Use inline AutoComplete check box
Click OK.

I'll paste it here in case anyone else has the same problem.

Thanks for the help guys!
