so i set up an apache server to serve up several folders on my pc. video, music, installs, etc.

basically, if you type my ip into internet explorer, along with the folder you want, youll get the index.

ex: http://***my-ip-here***/video/

youll get prompted for a password, after which youll get my index of videos.

SO.

what do i do next. basically what i want is a domain i type in, which would then prompt me for a password. afterward is a simple screen with four links:

pictures
video
music
other

instead of ending my domain with '/video/' or '/music/' all the time.

i was wondering if you guys had an ideas about this. i have a dynamic ip. i was going to buy the domain 'breadandbubbles.net', or whatever, and use dyndns.com to link it to my apache server, but now i want a link page. so i basically need to build an extremely simple website, right?

can i build a website using frontpage or something, and host the file via apache, and have dyndns link to that instead? or...something?

i dont know what to do at all. i have no experience with this kind of thing

any suggestions?

If you want to purchase a domain, buy it from Namecheap.com. They support dynamic IP addresses.

You can use Apache to serve your website like you said. If you have no experience using HTML, yes, you can use FrontPage, Dreamweaver, WYSIWYG, etc. to create your pages.
