I have just bought a new laptop that has a wireless NIC, as I plan to use it when
I'm not sitting at my computer desk. I would like to add it to my network so that I
can access my other computers from it to share files, as well as to connect to
the internet. Right now, my other 3 computers, which are all in the same room,
are connected through a hub and then a router (all by cable). The router that I'm
currently using only has 2 ports, one for cable in and one for cable out.
The setup I am using is:
-> modem -> wired router -> hub -> computer1, computer2, etc.
If I replaced my router with a wireless one and connected all of my computers to the
ports on it (whether with cable or wireless), would I still be able to share files between
them, or would they only have a shared internet connection?
If not, how would I go about doing it?

in your configuration, if you replaced either the wired router or the hub (or both) with a wireless router, you would get the same functionality as you currently have. a wireless router is just a router that also has wireless. it shouldnt change your setup.

What is a wireless access point? I was just looking at some new routers on
a site and it mentioned it. It was connected to a port on a hub.
Is it something that may be cheaper than buying a new wireless router?

A wireless access point provides wireless access to a wired network. A WAP likely has fewer features like ports and configuration options than a router. Prices are pretty comparable and affordable.
