andre8
http://www.halfdone.com/pastebin/?id=2811-3F1The link above is the "Halfdone Unknown Devices" list for my laptop, which should list all my computer's devices. Currently when I try to install XP Pro (32-bit) on my computer I hit a BSOD a couple minutes into the process. It may be AHCI-related, but I'm new to this, so before I flip BIOS settings or install new SATA drivers I was hoping to get some expert opinions. My ICHCan anyone tell me what's going wrong, and how to get around it so I can get XP running? If it matters, the exact model is a Toshiba Satellite M300 PSMDCC-03C00Q (I'm pretty sure it's a Futureshop-exclusive model that's basically an 03400Q, but it was a gift, so I'm not exactly sure.) I've made recovery disks in case of disaster, and it has a hidden recovery partition on the HDD (hopefully that is not what is causing XP's installer to hang). Many thanks!Slightly more info, if helpful: the chipset is intel's PM45 Express (http://www.intel.com/Products/Notebook/Chipsets/PM45/PM45-overview.htm)
jrf2027
Just glancing through, I would suggest starting with integrating the SATA driver, or changing the BIOS to IDE mode. Having installed XP on my own Toshiba laptop, I recommend using the drivers from the Intel site for your chipset (the ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller, from your post on HalfDone). Use nLite to integrate into your XP source - here's a quick link on how to do the integration: http://tech.aroundthehat.com/nlite_sata.html. DragsterNFS
On the other hand, I switched the BIOS to ATA mode, installed and activated my windows copy, installed all the basic drivers needed, and afterwards switched back to SATA Native mode - ON. Worked!
ceez
switch the bios settings from AHCI to compatible. this is from a lenovo laptop but settings should be similiar, sata to ide or ahci to ide....play with those settings and you should be able to install xp.YET it shouldnt just bsod if you need the sata drivers. It would just stop on the text startup when it gets to the point of finding the harddrive and nicely tell you that it cant find a hard drive to install to. do you get past that area? do you get into the gui portion of the install process?I've read in the past that toshiba along with some other brand laptops are not downgradable to xp, the hardware has been made in such way that only works with vista. hopefully not your case, but a bsod is not the fault of missing sata drivers
